My first track event in the z

Did my first event today at the z1 nationals at little talladega. 1.4 mile course with not so many long straights.

Setup: Toyo r888s, hawk hp plus front pads, stock rear.

First session, car ran. And felt awesome until the brakes faded 20 minutes in. Back pads were completely worn out and rotors grooved badly.

Z1 brought me some new pads and rotors and I got them on and bled right before a giant downpour ended the day :(

TGPR? That is a tight track on a motorcycle. Must have been insane in the Z.

Not surprised about the brakes and rotors...

Yeah, Tgpr is very tight. road Atlanta Wednesday with hp plus all around next time.

I've been on RA many times on a mc but never in a car. I love it as long as it is not 100 degrees and 90% humidity.
I was just watching the Petite Lemans before it was red flagged due to heavy rain.
I will be at High Plains Raceway here in Colorado for for my first track day tommorrow.

On the bright side, with my modshack oil cooler, oil temps never exceeded 260

:iagree: tracks love brakes and rotors, upgrade is almost necessary for extended laps on the track.

TGPR is hell on brakes!!! I ran that track the weekend before last but I have carbotechs. They got real hot, but never had any fade. What kind of lap times were you running? I was able to get 1:11s on stock tires, carbotechs, and of course and oil cooler.

Mike 09-27-2009 08:31 PM

I don't have lap times, and I thought I was taking it easy because it was my first time out with the 370, but everyone said I was tearing it up. On another note, the SRM is awesome on the track, I really love it in that application, but not so much for daily driving. Also, there was a nissan rep with a nismo 370 out on the track all day, and that was pretty cool too.

On the old config, I ran 111s with my 350z.

The Z let me down today at HPR. Car overheated and went into limp mode. Ambient was about 75 deg F, elevation ~5000 ft.

oil cooler? I ran into a friend at the track this weekend with a 350z and a nascar truck oil cooler, the thing is freaking huge! He needs 11 qts not to fill up!

Mike,

You mentioned you are running R888s; what size and what are your thoughts on them? I picked up an extra set of OEM 19" wheels and I was thinking about moving to R888s on them, but sizes are limited...

Mike 09-28-2009 10:32 AM

I am running 275/35-18s all around on widened 350z wheels, 18x9.5". I really like the R888s a lot. With upgraded sway bars and a square tire set up, the car is very neutrally balanced now.

They wear out a lot quicker than my michelin pilot sport cups I was running on the corvette before switching to the toyos, but I am also buying the toyos used as take off race scrubs for 100 a piece as opposed to 4-500 per tire for the michelins.

Mike,

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised you can fit such a wide tire in the front. What are the wheel offsets and where did you get them? Are those aftermarket calipers or did you paint the stock ones?

Mike 09-28-2009 12:19 PM

They started out as 8.5 + 33 offset, but I had them widened and they are now 9.5 +46 offset. They are tucked a little from stock in the front, but that will minimize rock chips. In the rear, I am using a 25mm spacer, but they would also fit without it.

I bought the 4 350z rear track wheels used for 500 then spent another 900 to have them widened. Finished product is only 19.8 lbs also.
