Anyone ever play with Torque app!

So, just a few days ago I stumbled across TORQUE app. Even tho its been out for ever...but I never had a car worth putting it in. I bought the obd2 driver u need to install for torque to run. But, my god, I must say it's such an entertaining app. Has everything u need to play around. 1/4 mile times, 0-60, 60-100, cel on demand. etc. So far I've gotten 5.2 0-60 and 14.3....still not happy lol

I use a number of the OBD II apps, but not Torque (is that Android only?). I like many of them for them reasons you point out and others. I do some data logging and performance stuff. I don't know, but suspect that the quarter mile feature might have a bit of error around the measure. Probably fine for just having fun - I sure would like to believe I'm running well into 12 secs, but should probably get a track slip before making any claims :)

FYI, I got a right angle cable for better placement of my ELM327:

Yea I think it is for android. But it is for fun. It does a ton of others things too. Like video rec. But im still getting use to the add ons. Also does data log too. Cool little app. IT WILL GET YOU IN TROUBLE lol

I have used the Torque APP on my android device for 2+ years. Recently traded in 350 for a 370 Nismo. The OBDLink MX reader (Blue Tooth OBD reader) works even better. Fast refresh rate, nearly real time on my 370. Even displays AFR and a real read on engine temp, not a useless dot. Configured to suit your monitoring needs, I find it an invaluable aid while driving or tracking the car. Data logging is very useful, it can be directly uploaded to the internet for later perusal and analysis. Just my $.02.

H2O_Doc 06-19-2014 02:59 PM

Hmmm. That does look cool. The $15 Elm327s can be a bit slow to connect and clunky.

Mitco39 06-19-2014 04:27 PM

I use the Torque Bluetooth on my Android (rooted, custom OS) and it is instant once its connected. It even has the ability to add Nissan specific PIDs which is nice.

OBD-II PIDs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Essentially a parameter that you can watch in real time via OBDII.

Can you monitor oil temp?

iceman21_23 06-19-2014 05:49 PM

with the torque nissan adv plugin i can monitor oil temp yes. i use it for an accurate fuel gauge and not the dots...

TheBoomSpoon 06-19-2014 07:29 PM

I use torque along with adv addin for getting oil temp, here's an example of it being used

370z Quarter mile 12.841 at 108mph: http://youtu.be/H-5aqyEaXIM

Btw: the 0-60 seems pretty close but the 1/4 mile compared to slip seems off by about .3 to .6 all the time. 10mhz and 5mhz gps settings tried.

It sort of makes sense that the quarter mile times would be off by more (in a relative sense). Speed is probably reasonably accurate; a car needs to sense speed reasonably well. Distance is probably not bad at the scale of a mile, but I think there is probably several car lengths worth of error in what the car measures to be a quarter mile. Now, if distance comes from GPS, then I would expect even more error.

This is just guessing, but it seems intuitively satisfying (which is what really matters at the end of the day).

i only did a couple compares but i ran a 13.1 and torque reported 13.7

another was high 12.9 torque reported 13.6

once it was that far apart i stopped using torque for qtr mile except to record.

im testing an app now PerfExpert, like 12 bucks on android and it seems very accurate on the 0-60 so far, consisten 4.5s mostly. cant compare qtr mile yet, and it'll measure flywheel horsepower ehich to keep my speed down i tried 2nd, reported 389bhp which is probably close. gonna try a third gear pull to see but 5his perfexpert app is intriguing if you 12 bucks to blow on playing around. its calibration it does on your accelerometer is damn precise. wow. long message.

point, your probably much faster than what torque is showing.

Even if the software is really good at calibration and math and realtime issues, and even if your particular model of phone has a very accurate accelerometer... usually just the mounting of the phone is going to cause a lot of error. Unless you've made some kind of custom mount that bolts your phone to some hard metal on the car without any weasle-y joints like most phone mounts have.

i use the IBolt mount. had it for over a year, thing does not move. its hard to do qtr test on the street, 0-110 here i see no place to do it safely so just waiting to get time to visit the strip again.

I have yet to get oil temp to work even though it says the PID is available. I do have the advanced Nissan add on as well.

Dashcommand is my favorite iOS OBDII app; I use it pretty regularly with an Elm327 wifi.

Yep tried that exact PID I get nothing. Might uninstall the nissan adv and re install. Think that might be an issue for me.

I use them both, but I usually go back to Torque. Here are a couple of screen shots from last year. First picture is Torque and the second one is Dash Command...

thats odd. id definitely uninstall. if not, then maybe your ODB2 doesnt support it? although it should heh. heres my car after sitting in the garage after driving home in 80 degree weather from work just now:

so many cool PIDs with nissan adv. i wish they could figure out a TPMS PID so we could get all 4 tire pressures recorded :yum:

Pressure would be a great one. I reinstalled willl give it a ry tomorrow.

I figured mine out...thanks again guys. I have air temps and a/r and timing

Corsairprime 02-02-2015 09:03 PM

I agree, adding the extra PIDs really helps torque work better. Thanks for the tip.

370zBLAST 12-12-2015 07:48 PM

wow been a few months since i posted. i have brought my car to the track and got a 13.6 all stock
