Bringing wheels to and from track

For those of you who actively go to the track, what's your preferred method of hauling extra wheels and tires?

Up till now I've been just using my stock wheels and don't carry any spares with me but I'm always concerned I'm not going to be able to make it home on the wheels that I brought. I've recently purchased a set of dedicated track wheels to take to and from the track but now I have to rely on friends who are also going to the track to help me haul them because they won't really fit in the Z. Anyone figure out a novel way to haul all your track equipment with just the Z?

On a related note has anyone tried to modify a bike rack to hold wheels instead of bikes like with a boofsquire or something?

You need a small/light trailer ... search trailer hitches in the motorsport thread - has been done before for just this purpose.

I put the track wheels on & convert from street trim to track... then trailer the whole rig

Can't imagine hauling 4 wheels & tires, tools, race fuel, helmet & race suit, etc in the car itself?

Search for my DIY Low $ Trailer Hitch. Just remember to use an angle grinder instead of a dremel tool.

before a trailer, I would drive to and from on slicks, sometimes even after the trailer, as it was just easier. never noticed any decreased life, as they really don't get too hot going 60mph.

Mike, did you steal a corvette badge, wth is that on your hood anyway?

no way to fit 4 18's with 285 square I tried. I can fit 4 tires no problem, you can probably fit 3 wheels, maybe strap one on the hatch LOL

I used to fit (4) 285's on 10.5's in the 350 without issue. Could toss in a jack, tools, etc as well.

One of my buddies has a setup like this for his spec miata, works great. http://www.ls3.net/image/Miata%20and...%20Trailer.jpg

Tow hitch on the Zed. I have a boofsquire and don't think this would be a safe way to transport them.

No, its not a corvette badge, although I did own one, but its my Naval Aviator wings, which I earned through a lot of hard work.
