BJ Zacharias and pole sitter Bryan Heitkotter finished third in the dominant No. 14 Doran Racing Nissan 370Z, followed by Pumpelly and Jim Norman. Mark Boden – seeking his third consecutive victory – finished fifth with substitute driver David Donohue in the No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3.

Heitkotter (17) and Zacharias (6) combined to lead a race-high 23 laps, while Pumpelly led 15. Plumb led only the final three circuits.

Dwnshift 08-10-2013 05:09 PM

4.5 miles short today...but hopefully the monkey has found a new home.
With the highest rpms..and the smallest fuel capacity..its a crazy game out there and Fr once it stayed green.
Bryan did an excellent job on his opening stint...and Doran racing setup a beautiful chassis for the conditions. Road America is notorious for getting slick and sloppy espc with heavy cars. This strategy played out and let us have a very competitive car.
After our final pitstop for a fuel load of fuel... We were 50+ seconds down from the leaders with 20 laps remaining.
Thanks again to Nissan Motorsports / Nismo and the GT Academy. Doran racing has built an extremely potent 370Z RC.
So stoked for this team...the crew did a fan-tab-ulous job.

Yea, I don't know what Rum Bum is running but I think its the DI engine and Bosch ECU so 19gallons vs your 17gallons. I think they still got some pretty amazing gas mileage to get 82min of fuel. The same goes to Aston who has 20 gallon capacity. Not sure when the multi-matic car got fuel last but it seemed to be similar in timing to Rum-Bum.

One thing is for sure when other teams can go 20-30min longer on fuel then you can your at a significant disadvantage. They have 1 stop races and while tires do become an issue at the end you simply cannot make up for track position not to mention taking tires on your 2nd stop (all 4 anyways) would be disastrous for track position.

Regardless good work B.J. Its tough to try to push to catch up the entire time on old tires! 3rd is something to be proud of given the disadvantage on fuel you guys faced!

P.S. Do you think if you would have taken just left side tires when you did your 2nd fuel stop it would have made any difference on the day?

DR_ 08-12-2013 10:46 AM

Well if you play the hindsight game Doran should not have backtimed thier stop and instead waited until almost empty and then pit so they could have a splash and dash stop like most of the other cars. That quicker stop plus the slowing Rum-Bum might have kept Doran in the lead.
But then if you do that the sure as **** a yellow would have been thrown, giving everyone else enough yellow to make it to the end and then Doran would get a 13th place again.

Highest reving smallest displacement and smallest fuel capacity.
Just trying to enjoy the podium at the moment and give the crew and team something to hang their hats on.
Focusing on the week ahead and see if we can step a little higher on the podium at Kansas Speedway this weekend.

What is your current red line anyway?

Dwnshift 08-12-2013 01:43 PM

8750

Shamu 08-12-2013 02:20 PM

Any in car videos of the race?

Dwnshift 08-12-2013 04:49 PM

We usually dont share / post that... It's like giving other teams your data.
:(
Just watched in car from Kansas speedway ... And noticed the car using 1st gear... And as a useable gear...not just leaving the pit box
Ummmm

JARblue 08-12-2013 05:01 PM

Great news on the podium finish!! :driving: Big congratulations to the whole team!!

Disappointed I wasn't able to watch (on vacation at the beach and the internet was too slow), but it sounds like they had some streaming troubles anyway. I can't wait to watch the replay on TV sometime soon. Rep to anyone who posts the date and time of the TV broadcast :tiphat:

Dwnshift 08-12-2013 07:29 PM

Aug 17th on Fox Sports 2
:)

SS_Firehawk 08-12-2013 07:37 PM

Gonna have my Wife DVR that for me :P

Sh0velMan 08-12-2013 08:55 PM

FYI, Fox Sports 2 is replacing Fuel TV, starting on the 17th, it's channel 193 on Time Warner and comes with the Sports Pass (What you gotta have to get Speed2, which is apparently not changing, even after Speed goes away?)

DirecTV apparently isn't picking up FS2 for several months, so I guess I won't be watching the reply. Fvck you, DirecTV

SS_Firehawk 08-13-2013 01:34 PM

Thanks for confirming! :tiphat: I found it on FuelTV (ch 618 here) showing at 3 am CST on Monday the 19th :icon14: Got it set to DVR :driving:

I should have known that calling their customer service to ask questions would only piss me off :icon17:

... I'm pretty sure I said earlier in this thread that Fuel TV = Fox Sports 2 starting the morning of the 17th.

If you have Fuel TV, you'll have FS2.

Well, I'm blaming DirecTV customer service for confusing me. I saw your post, but I was looking at the wrong times and never found anything. In addition, the guide just has it listed under the title Auto Racing, so when I was trying to search Continental I got nothing. The only thing I have to go by on my receiver at home is a vague, abbreviated description that says "Auto Racing: Cont. Tire Ser." :ugh2:

FWIW, I finally found it on the online guide with a full description at 2 pm CST on Sat 17th. I'm guessing customer service just doesn't have a clue, that you are right, and that the broadcast will be under the new Fox Sports 2 brand.

ChrisSlicks 08-13-2013 04:21 PM

If you miss the broadcast you can always catch it online from the grandam website. This will be my option since I'll be away racing.

Grand-am TV

 this was my back up plan, though I notice Road America is still not yet available (maybe same day as TV broadcast - 17th?).

**** Fox really. RIP Speed.

thekinn 08-19-2013 01:54 PM

I finally got a chance to watch this race on Grand-Am - sure was nice to see you guys up front for a while.. as for the fuel.. beats me.. but nice to see you squeak out a 3rd place spot.

Dwnshift 08-19-2013 07:21 PM

Again ... We have the smallest fuel capacity in the series (per the rules) and the highest rpm limit...
Can only go X amount of laps on a fuel tank ... So it's always a game of chess.
