Power steering fluid boil?

The one odd thing at the last track day was at the end of my final session when I parked, I saw steam(smoke) coming up from what I thought the passenger wheel and over the hood. after opening the hood there appeared to be some liquid splashes (a very small amount) on the passenger front left side just under the Power steering fluid reservoir, least, I think it's the power steering fluid reservoir. now that I think about it, whatever that is. The top was wet so I dried that off and am just assuming that's what it was. No codes showed on the car and I drove home from NJ (2.5 hours) no problem and no problems today.

I just don't recall anyone ever mentioning Power steering fluid boiling or overheating? wtf?

this was at like the almost 6pm at the track so everybody was gone I was literally one of the last people to leave so fortunately my no knowledge about car self wasn't stranded.

The power steering reservoir cap leaks like crazy when it gets hot and cornering hard. On the WC cars, I have seen the caps weep a fair amount. If you look at the cap, there are no seals. We ended up putting a rag on around the cap and Zip-tying it around the resrevoir.

Common problem at the track. That's why many performance cars come with power steering fluid coolers.

Ours is fairly undersized. There are some relatively cheap upgrade options

A lot depends of the track. If it's a track with lots of turns close together you will have issues. And to add to that the weather and size of your tires plays a roll also.

I boil mine every autox event, and that's with the Z1 upgraded PS cooler. I've just come to realize I'll be flushing my PS fluid frequently.

Get bigger cooler.

Remember too. Don't fill the reservoir up to the cold line. Keep it alittle under. As the fluid heats up. It expands. It needs someplace to go. Also wrap a rag around the cap, and secure it with a gum band. Makes clean up easier. ;)

This happened to me yesterday for the first time. It was over 90 degrees in the shade and I lost about two teaspoons full. Just enough to make a mess.

Sears Point.

It was well above the max hot line. This morning below the line.

the z1 ps cooler and redline D6 did the trick for me. Was at the same track I had boiled over on the first time but, 15 to 20 deg hotter 90's. No problems at all.

Mine boils just about every track day out here in CA. I don't change it every time as I have not noticed much effect from the boiling. However, I do change it probably 4 times a year. I can't tell that boiling the PS fluid really means much, but I change it frequently just cuz.
