how does the whiteline bar compare to the hotchkis front bar stiffness wise?

From what I have gathered on websites, etc....the Hotchkis is about 300% stiffer than stock and the Whiteline is about 50% stiffer.

Also I think the consensus among many on this forum is that the Hotchkis bar upfront is too much unless you're running r-comp tires.

The one other thing that made a huge difference in my opinion was ditching the factory offset tire setup and going to a square setup. Not sure what your budget is but a set of track wheels with 285 or 295 wide tires all around might be worth considering too.

For now I am running street tires. Michelin PSS.

I have toyed with the idea of going 'square'. At some point I may do this, but I need to find someone selling some wheels cheap as this is more than I want to spend right now (also need to figure out how to get another set of wheels to the track). At that point I would do r-compound. I also like the idea of being able to rotate tires.

Everyone rates their bars differently.
We rated the Hotckis as that is what we were running at first ..it being the largest front bar available ...never rated a Whiteline.
We rated it on a flat plate with a scale and press...not just based on a calculation.

where did you get that whiteline info about being 50% stiffer? cause even though the whiteline is same diameter as the stock, stock is hollow and thin walled while the whiteline is solid

What don't you like about how the car handles?

It's far more instructive to decide on mods based on what you want to fix. My personal lean would be towards giving yourself camber control up front to try and dial out some of the understeer.

I don't really have any complaints about the handling. The car's capability is still far more than my driving ability. I did notice a lot of tire wear on the outside edge of the front tires which was one of the things I was hoping to fix. I just haven't made any mods in a while and had the itch to do something to the suspension.

Thanks for the advice on the camber. It is consistent with what my instructor recommended.

Front bar will stabilize the front end...and add rear grip center off.
On a car that you have ZERO control/ adjustment of the front camber...you need all the roll control you can throw at it.
And then even when you have that...you still need it.
Our front bar on the RC is more than 2x the stiffness of any aftermarket bar... And thats the old bar.

You replace the blade ends? I swear when I looked at the car B.J. its mind bending that the ends don't just snap under the stress of that monster bar. That being said it is one sexy setup on the Doran Z.

Just for reference...Hotchkis front bar tested at our shop about 980 lbs per inch.... Food for thought.

Considering Dwnshift is way smarter than me when it comes to all things racecar, I'd listen to what he has to say more than what I said.

A Nismo OE rear?

Dwnshift 06-03-2013 04:02 PM

Yes actually we have new blades that will upgrade gen1 front bar...
And also gen2 front bar.

Nismo made a couple rear bars that are/were available for the RC.... But we rated a OEM stock sway bar and the bar that came on our car which I believe was just Nismo stock bar....rate wise around 225-250 lbs per inch??
We used this a a gauge and made a couple rear bars that gave us a good adjustment range.

Not much at all compared to our front ;)

I see.

So I should consider a Hotchkiss front and literally a Nismo OE take-off rear... Alright.

How many track days are you running?
I'm sure we could always chat and could make you a front bar.
;)
