Advice? Tracking in Rain this Sun at Laguna w/ RE11
Hey Guys,
I'm going to track at Laguna w/NCRC this Sunday which is most likely going to rain and thought I'd get some last minute advice. I've tracked there once this past summer and a couple of times at T-Hill but never tracked in the rain, esp with RE11s. I have very little tread left - 1 track day. The only thing I could think of is: - Keep VDC on - Go slower What else? I also didn't rent out a garage this time...sigh, looks like my stuff will need to sit in the rain while I track. Cheers! Happy Holidays |

also, stay off of all painted lines and gators. They are really slippery. This car is a handful in the rain, so slow it way down at first.

I just did 2 track days in the wet... if it didnt rain and ur out on the track, the first initial rain will pretty much make u spin anywhere.. all the tire/oil residue etc within the first 15-30 mins, once more cars go on the track u will get a lot more grip. I learned not to rev it as high and short shift. I had to take vdc off or the car wouldn't go anywhere........... just bring an EZ Up, I fit it on the passenger seat!
Few of us socal guys will do Laguna in the summer maybe june? |
Thank you all for the suggestions. I was really excited to test out my KW V3 for the first time. I had it set up with -2.8 front and -2.5 rear camber. I never had any coil overs before. I guess there'll always be next time.
I will try to stay off from the berms. As for turning off VDC, I totally know whatcha mean about not going anywhere but I'll leave it on for awhile to see what's up. I'm also going to have an instructor to do a check out ride so I can run with their open point by. I never ran with NCRC before so i have to do a solo first with them. I'm going with CityTech to T-Hill December 29 and to Laguna Feburary 3. Let me know when you guys go in June ill be interested. |
It should be with speed ventures, about 4 Z's from socal went up and another 8-10 cars came up with Speed Ventures Fri, Sat, sun! Will let u know!

did u get a corner balance as well for the kw? driving on coil overs makes a huge improvement!!!

You can still go pretty fast in the wet if you shortshift to keep your RPMs down and wait on the throttle. Helps to be strapped in tight if you have a harness.
|
If you have adjustable shocks I'd go full soft in rear with medium setting upfront. If you have adjustable bars full soft in rear.
Stay off painted surfaces, stay off the grass on exit of 11, keep an eye out for oil sheen on wet track and watch your self in those areas, pretend like you have an egg under your accelerator foot, give other cars plenty of room. Drive smooth with no abrupt steering inputs. Don't lift suddenly either. Don't get too cocky. |
Just remember you have to drive home and you win nothing even if you lap the field....

Question about KW setting (I currently have): Front Axle: Rebound 9 Clicks open Bump 1 Turn Open Rear Axle: Rebound 9 Clicks open Bump 1 Turn Open What setting should I do for both front & rear Rebound & bump? (I believe clockwise is harder for rebound & bump. I'll def be interested in tracking with you guys when you guys come up to nor cal for Laguna. Thanks for all the helpful advice. I'm very open to any feedback and I agree at the end of the day as fun as it is to drive fast, my biggest concern is to have a car to drive back home with. What's an EZ-Up by the way? Is it a tent thingy? |
Corner balance is more so when you first install coilovers. you can pull good bit of weight before I'd suggest going back and getting done again

I want to thank everybody for the advice. The track day was very valuable. I took it very easy and I was able to learn about the car's limit and had an opportunity to learn and feel how to control the car when it's losing traction. I'm so glad I went, I learned so much. And it wasn't even hard on the car brakes or tires.
Hope you guys are all doing well. Merry Christmas. |
Congrats on your first time in the rain, so much fun.
By the way, has anyone figured out what to do about the brake vibration by the water hitting a hot rotor? |
