Harry's Laptimer

Anyone used it?
Thoughts/feedback/better alternatives?

Saw someone using it at barber and after a cursory look it looks like a nice solution for the money.

Thanks in advance!

It's a pretty functional lap timer app for only $20. "Set it and forget it" operations but needs an external GPS receiver for better accuracy at speed. If you're using iOS then it's pretty much the best app. You can export lap time to sync with video afterward though I haven't done that. So far just been using it as a lap timer and would recommend it.

You need to buy an external GPS, else it will just be a reference item rather than a true datalogger

Thanks guys.

@Cossie. Yeah, I was planning on the Emprum Ultimate or Dual XPGPS. Was hoping for a 10hz, but haven't done much research past what Harry's recommended, so I'm not sure what else is out there.

I believe most people use the Quartstarz or something, its about $80

I love Harry's Laptimer. I've used it for a few years and still use the same TomTom GPS/mount with my 4S that I started using when I had the 3GS.

Have used about ten track days- easy, simple hands off, more than enough for "fun" track day- added external GPS Emprum and OBDII - great output and great feedback

See how your speed isn't going up in a linear fashion, basically the software is "guessing" your speed when the GPS isn't updating.

Also the more I think about it, are you sure the speed is right? I don't know how modded your Z is, but 129mph down the backstretch needs a lot of HP or crazy cornering speed up the esses.

Is the 129mph off the GPS or off the OBD? It would make sense if it is off the OBD since the speedo on our computer reads a few mph quicker

I believe the speed to be very accurate based on visual of Tach (tough to see speedo as am sure you know)- was in 5th gear and around 6000 RPM. But agree HLT does occasionally get bogged down on data update. Again for fun track day it is more than adequate and provides good feedback and insight- I don't track enough to drop a $K or more on data aquisition and very pleased with HLT performance albeit not perfect. I've done about a dozen track days at The Glen and have picked up a few MPH different segements over the past 3 years. I love the Esses and the Z really handles well so you can push up the hill thru the curves. In other lap vids I was pretty consistently hitting 126..127..128 and would typically be gaining on other cars in this section of track and staying with the 911's (Traffic vid) so I think the 129 MPH is correct

I agree what you are using is perfectly fine for what you are doing, can't beat it for the price. Plus as long as you are comparing your runs with the same setup, the difference/delta is what matters.

Remember your speedo reads 1-2mph higher than your actual speed at highway speed, so the difference could be 3-4mph at 120 something mph. It just seems high that's all, you could be that fast. I just happened to notice it when I was watching the video.

I tried to use SoloStorm with no external GPS, the result was awful.
