SCCA AutoX - STU Class?

Is there anything in the rules that prevents a 370z with tires 285 or less from competing in STU? I could not find anything that only permits those vehicles specifically listed.

Stu is 3.0 liters or less I believe. I run STO for road racing.

AutoX Z 08-13-2012 08:08 PM

It is not specifically listed so it is not ineligible for national competition. Regional cars that fall into any NOC (not otherwise classed) listing may compete in that class. Unfortunately the NOC listing for STU is as follows:

Sedans & Coupes NOC (non-
sports-car-based; 4-seat mini-
mum; over 5.1L normally as-
pirated or 2.0L to 3.1L forced
induction)

Being a 2-seat sports-car-based car makes the 370Z ineligible. And if you're wondering, STX has the same description but 3.1L-5.1L NA displacement.

Personally I think this is total BS. I have a hard time believing that we'd be destroying all the competition if they let us into STX. I definitely 370z gets the raw end of the deal in SCCA Solo classing. The real problem is, IMO, that the 370z is really "between" classes so the SCCA doesn't know what to do with it. It's either put it where it is now where we have to struggle to be competitive or drop us a class and then we'd have an advantage.

Now that Buetzer is running with Junior in SSP. Sell your nismo and run CS in a standard 370. That's the best class for the 370 at the moment. As others said, not legal for any ST classes.

I'm stubborn enough to stick it out in ASP, but it's going to be a long road.

I would expect it in STR, where the 350z is.

Excerpt the 350Z is not allowed in STR.

Yes it is.

Oops, my apologies. It is legal. Ironically that I ran a Solstice in STR for a year and an S2000 in STR for 1.5 year. :)
I guess no one really tried because of lack of camber adjustment and limitation of tire width.

There are ways to get camber in STR its really just the tire vs weight.

What he said. I have this one E92 M3 just killing me every time in ASP. But I keep going anyway.

No way no how will 370Z ever be competitive at a National level with well developed blown 4 cylinders in ASP. My 370 wasnt competitive with EVO's until I put supercharger on it. Essentially left my car in SP trim and put a blower on it to see if it was mostly power issue. It was. I went from being a second or two off all local EVO's in ASP to being even and beating them. Then there are old vettes in SP.

Its big reason Im going onto XP. At least with XP I'll have a car capable of being TTOD occasionally at local level and I'd rather be two seconds off top XP car than two seconds off a fairly stock looking EVO in ASP. I hate getting beat by EVOs regardless of class. So I built an EVO beater!

Id agree stay in CS with a base 370Z or BS in Nismo and your going to have best luck. Everything else we are screwed with SCCA

With all due respect, I somewhat disagree. I think he can do reasonable (bottom of the trophies) well in ASP, if he is willing to build an absolute rule book car. I do not think a 370z is going to be beat berry, grice, or miller.

Do you have links to any of the events you've run with the SC? I've been really curious to see how the extra power worked out for you.
