Need advice/input on new wheel set up

So I am torn on what wheel set up to get this weekend for my Z.

Right now it is between Enkei RPF1s and PF01.

PF01 would be 18x9.5+15 in front and 18x10.5+15 in rear. weight is about the same as my stock sport rays, I think a lb lighter maybe.

RPF1s would be 18x9.5+15 front and 18x10.5+15 in rear. weight is about 5 lbs lighter than stock rims.

As I am told 1lb in weight saving in a rim is equal to 20 lbs in rotating mass, which if I am thinking this correctly is 100lbs lighter rotating mass per corner?

Sounds pretty significant to me in weight savings.

Problem is Im not sure how well the rpf1 will clear front brakes, and to me the pf01 look better than the rpf1. But since my car is 90% a weekend track car, is the weight savings worth it?

Also Ive been hearing that a lot of you track guys have been benefiting greatly from doing a square set up. So I am wondering if thats something I should be considering as well. Only thing is if I do a square set up I would want to do 10.5 square if it is possible, since I have a thing about having wide tires.

Somone point me in the right direction :tiphat:

Just throwing this out there.....
Spend your money on tires for the track.
Invest in a decent set of wheels that will best suite the tire sizes ...that are readily available and in your budget.
1lbs per wheel isnt going to be noticeable.
Really look at what tire you want to run.... Then size...then wheel size.
We are 245 front and 275 rear and have a pretty well balanced machine.
You can never go wrong with good tires being a priority..... The only 4 things that touché ground. ;)

A square setup is really nice for the weekend warrior since you can rotate wheels and tires to get the longest tire wear. It also typically means you are running a wide front tire which also helps tire wear.
From what I've read the +15 RPF1 does clear the sport calipers.
9.5 is wide enough if you go with a 275/40/18 like the Nitto NT01. If I were to buy something today I would go this setup with the RPF1.
10.5 is better for a 285 to 305 width.

Enkei RPF-1 in the size of ** 9.5'' x 18'' +15 offset **does fit over my AP Racing BBK
the size with a +30 offset did not fit , I think it was a 9'' or 9.5'' wheel

so that mean the sport brake should technically fit.

edit ; on the picture the front are on a 245-40-18 RA1 with -3.7 Camber

I ran with a 275-35-18 & -3.5 camber Toyo RA1 in the front I had to roll my front fender to make sure that I dont rub on my last Time Attack.

the rear could have a more agressive offset but its alright ;)

I am already running r888 on my stock sport rims and plan on running these on which ever rim I choose to go with. I have a warehouse near my house that fully stocks all sizes of the r888 and i can pick them up for relatively cheap. So again its all about choosing a rim size. I didnt think 1lb per corner would make that much of a difference but does 5 lbs a corner make a difference?

Also how wide can I go in front? will wider than a 9.5 in front make a difference? lets say if I did a square 10 or 10.5 set up?

I would go with the lighter strong wheel , no matter how bad or good they look , if its only for the track , who cares ! hehe
5lbs per corner in my book is a lot ! and can definatly help you a little bit.

as for the front wheel size ,, I wouldnt go with a 10.5'' because the wheel will definatly be outside of the fender and the 10'' +15 if there is one ..
you wouldnt be able to run a big tire anyway because they extend 6mm out t compare with the 9.5'' +15mm
I doubt you could run anything bigger than 275 if there is an 10'' +15offset

this is my guess , you can try it and give us more details ! ;)

If you give up the "aggressive" offset you can fit a more aggressive tire without messing with the fenders. I have been eyeing Forgestar F14s in 18x10 +30 and 18x11 +28 which should fit with track levels of camber. Just waiting on those a-arms!

Hi there i'm also planning to order custom TE37SL in a month with 18" for track, what if i want to run 305 tires all around what wide and offset i should go for?? i have BBK front and back and i'm running -2.2 camber all around..

CrownR426 07-28-2012 02:07 PM

I agree with tires mate!
Tires first then rims!
But definetly stick with 18's!

I run 18x10.5 +30. Fits over bbk, doesn't extend beyond fenders. I run 295s up front, 315 rear.

the OP mentionned about 2 different set of rim *Enkei RPF1s and PF01*

I was talking about the RPF1 which the 10.5'' is only offer with a +15 and wouldnt work on the 370z.
unless he has wider front fender.

jr1 07-28-2012 05:44 PM

Enkei makes the nt03+m in +30. Pretty similar to those.

How would I figure out what is the largest square tire setup I can run on the stock Nismo 19s? I will be dropped on swifts soon with no spacers, and I am looking into some RE11s.
