Harness Bar Availability

Searched around and couldn't find any off the shelf harness bars for the Z34. Seems like everyone is still advocating just getting a custom one made. Basically just looking to be able to run a 4 maybe 5 point harness for Autocross to keep me more planted during my runs. Definitely would like to keep my factory belts for normal street driving so any bar that allows that would be preferred.

sfearl1 05-27-2012 02:50 PM

I was planning on using this as a harness bar...

The way I read the SCCA Solo rules this rear brace isn't allowed in the ASP class. I was really hoping for a bar that utilizes the factory belt points up top with the braces going down to floor similar to this one that fits mustangs.

^^ I had one just like that in my Evo. I haven't seen one for the Z yet.

So the GT Spec style brace isn't allowed?

If I could get a volunteer.....

I'm in Toledo so just name the time and place and I'll let you guys use my nismo to fab something up. I don't have any racing seats yet but getting the harness bar would have me sitting pretty for getting the seats later this summer or over the winter. This would also be a great "excuse" to check out your guys shop. :happydance:

Dwnshift 05-27-2012 08:27 PM

We would prob need the car for a day or two... Let me see what I can do.

The way I read the rules you're allowed to add a strut tower brace that is either 2-point or 3-point. The GT Spec has 4 points so no go in ASP.

I make one for my Time Attack Z. Not sure if it can be used in your class. Check out my journal.

Not sure if that's the stock bar or not but I thought the general consensus was that the stock bar was not strong enough to act as a harness bar.

No, that's not the stock bar. Stock Bar wont hold. That's why we made it in steel and 3" piping. The same material when we make roll cages. Rock solid.
Just look at the pictures carefully, you should br able to find out the difference

Have you tried contacting BGTV8? He may have one or two left. I'm quite happy with mine!

Nice, can you still retain use of the OEM seat belt?

heh. Was supposed to. I bought hardware to do that but the fella who installed it all pulled the stock belts. I think my rush in prepping for ZdayZ may have led him to do that. (was going to install myself but I had to have a custom seat bracket built due to my height...)

Haha, the ZDayZ "push". Gotta get all the last minute mods in. I'm trying to get a headstart on 2013

Is your bar floating between the B pillars or are there floor braces? I guess the floor braces would make it a 4-pt...

sig11 05-28-2012 11:32 AM

Hard to see in pictures but there are two bolts about 8" long that replace stock bolts under the back plastic.

gtkiller 05-29-2012 01:54 PM

I went to see WWJD's harness bar in person very nice build quality. I'll be getting one myself when I get seat installed.

theDreamer 05-29-2012 02:00 PM

Glad to see more options coming to market for this.

Can you PM me what it would cost to get one of those ? Not sure if you are making more from reading your journal.

vjarnot 05-29-2012 08:19 PM

Robispec made one for their 370, mayhaps they can make you one as well. http://tinyurl.com/746t9q5

That actually looks fairly easy to replicate. Putting it simply, it looks like it's just a matter of fabricating the 2 mounting plates, cutting a pipe that's the right diameter and wall thickness, and then getting it welded together. I might take a look this weekend just to appease the engineer in me.

sixpax 05-29-2012 09:10 PM

...it does not look like Robispec is very active these days.

Looks good, but I've seen some people comment that the position of that bar is too low relative to the seats. The bar should be higher so the harness is not angled down behind the seats. Anyone knows what's right? If the angle of the harness doesnt matter, this bar is the way to go!

I believe Schroth states anywhere from horizontal to 20 degrees down from horizontal is within their specs. I'm sure all the harness manufacturers publish specs. Anyway, it depends on the person and seat as well...

I have made 5 of them. I don't know the market demand for these though. Also, I'm not a vendor here so I don't think I can sell. That's why i didn't say or advertise in my journal.

Yes, my tech has measured this. Due to the angle of the harness, we have actually made 2 revision. It will fit pretty much any racing seat out there. We have tried Recaro Pole Position, SPG, SPG XL. Of course, I can adjust the mounting location to fit more seats. That shouldn't be any problem.
The most important thing is choosing the right harness so it allows you to run certain angle such as Takada.
