m4a1mustang 04-06-2012 08:50 AM

Ouch!!!

corbin09 04-06-2012 08:58 AM

What in the hell was that guy thinking! Geeeeez man. Sorry to see that.. was the car repairable?

Dwnshift 04-06-2012 10:00 AM

Its at the frame rack now.....Def missing Homestead
Looks like we may be looking for a 2nd car/chassis to start a backup build.
NJ is up in the air....Mid Ohio is a good possibility to be our next run....which is our home away from home.
The team is already working towards major updates.....and I am claiming it will be a top 5 contender...its next time out....espc if its Mid Ohio.

Glad to see the "can do attitude". Really want to make it to the Mid-O race but it's only worth it if you guys are there.

That whole incident just solidifies my one complaint about the Conti series; way too many cars on the track. I really wish they would only allow the top XX cars into the race based on qualifying. Just my opinion though.

m4a1mustang 04-06-2012 11:04 AM

Keeping the fields small isn't particularly healthy for the series, though.. Fans, sponsors, teams, etc. want their cars out on track. I don't think there's enough money on the line to make it worth it to haul all of your team and equipment to the track when there is a risk you might not even race. It's not like NASCAR Sprint Cup where you can spend as little as possible to attempt to qualify for the race, then if you do qualify you park your car on lap 1 of the race and collect $100k for last place. There are only so many teams that can afford to compete for the championship at that level so you get some bottom feeder guys trying to make a buck. :icon17:

Fingers crossed to see you at Mid-Ohio. Love that track.

I think the crowded fields make for a pretty good show generally.

370Zsteve 04-09-2012 12:02 PM

That was a Mustang, wasn't it. :shakes head:

We are def missing Homestead...which is a bummer..I think that car would do very well there.
I am trying to line up a driver for New Jersey now...and another package that would lock us in for the rest of the season after that.
Mid Ohio ...as I was told today is a go for us.
The OEM ECU is being removed and we are going to the Grand Am spec BOSCH ECU.
Car is still on the frame rack and we are currently sourcing out chassis #2 to build.
Lots going on...and moving forward.

BigT 04-09-2012 03:03 PM

Sorry for your loss, guys! Car is looking good.

Kinda excited to see how the new ECU will affect the VVEL and hp in general.

speedworks 04-09-2012 08:35 PM

There is always someone trying to win it in the 1st turn.

GaleForce 04-09-2012 08:46 PM

I figured a squirel ran out on the track, he was trying to spare the poor things life.

Seriously though, that sucks. Good luck with the rest of your season.

Doesn't the RC use the HR head conversion thing to eliminate VVEL?

corbin09 04-10-2012 10:55 AM

Yes. Apparently it doesnt hold up to high rpms for extended periods of time well.

Interesting... didn't know that. Thanks.

Still interested in power output of the car.

Dwnshift 04-11-2012 08:56 AM

From my understanding..the VVEL has no benifit to HP or racing application...its more of an efficency / emission improvement. Keep in mind also that any improvement under 5000 RPM.... isnt a benifit for what we are looking for.
The VVEL also carries a lot of heavy moving parts.
Since our engine is the smallest normally apsirated engine in the GS class...we have been given some engine upgrades for both performance and reliability.
For all intense purposes our engine is a 3.7 HR with the approved enhancements.
The BOSCH ECU will probably give us better throttle response and allow us to map the engine more accurately/detailed. This should give us the same HP or maaaaaybe a small improvement...but larger gains in driveability, fuel mileage, fail safes etc. We dealt with a couple issue going back to throttle at Barber that if we had the BOSCH...would have been non issues.
Knowing how the series works...we dont like speaking about HP and anything that could be used against the program...its a political game..and other teams that may feel threatned are always lurking. For our first time out...there are plenty of others alreadys looking over their shoulders...(or so we feel)
Grand Am starts with a basis of HP to weight ratios...and goes from there based on track performance from race lap data.
I can say this... the V8 M3's are making 400-410HP at the wheels and weigh 3300 lbs.
The Mustangs are making 405-415 at the wheels and weigh 3335 lbs.
Both make a looooot of TQ.
Both are low 8 lbs per HP rating.... At 2900 lbs we are higher than that...but working to narrow the gap.
;)

I totally understand you guys wanting to keep your #'s a close secret. Don't want those Grand Am officials spoiling your party. ;)

sig11 04-11-2012 09:10 AM

Finally able to watch the race. Only word that comes to mind is "shitshow" for those first few laps.

Dwnshift 04-11-2012 08:05 PM

PS....
From what I am hearing....please check soon with Nissan Motorsports parts ....for Front Upper control arms and possibly some of our other suspension bits.
;)
