Do you have it set to spot metering? That should solve that problem 90% of the time.

Not sure what that is. I'll look at it today. It has worked fine for me the other times but it was mounted on the windshield inside the car.

If you do spot metering and the very center of the camera isn't hitting the windshield, it will still **** up the lighting. So that's another thing to be aware of.
