thinking about bringing the Z back to stock

and using it as a daily driver, selling my CRZ and using the money from the CRZ sale and parting out of the 370 to build a Spec Z for the NASA series.

I think it could be just as fun as the 370, since I really enjoyed my 350 back in the day.

I figure I could sell my Forgestars, Stoptech Trophy system and coilovers for about 8000, although not overnight, especially the brakes.

I would also need to sell my texas rollback trailer and go enclosed, since the 350 wouldnt have windows.

TerribleONE 02-10-2012 06:55 PM

Sounds like fun... Dibs on the brakes!!

Mike 02-10-2012 07:03 PM

I'll keep you in mind. they aren't cheap though ;)

TerribleONE 02-10-2012 07:04 PM

Trust me I know..

wstar 02-10-2012 07:28 PM

What coilovers do you have on there? I've forgotten, but I might in the market for some in the next couple of months.

HKYStormFront 02-10-2012 07:40 PM

you sure about this?

Tein Mono-flex

Patrick,
I'm not 100% sure, but I am leaning toward it. Been thinking about it since the series was announced.

I think I need to put the honda up for sale, and then go from there.

clintfocus 02-10-2012 07:47 PM

im thinking of getting a used 350 too for spec Z :D

Megan370z 02-10-2012 07:58 PM

dibs on the APR gtc300 !!!!!

Mike 02-10-2012 08:03 PM

wow! A lot of interest in my parts! I guess I will clean up and list the honda for sale and see what happens. Don't need 4 cars anyway.

HKYStormFront 02-10-2012 08:13 PM

i might be interested in the trailer depending on the timing/specs

I just realized, I could keep it. I forgot that I will have an empty garage space once I sell the honda, but if I do sell it, I will talk to you first.

What do you need a trailer for anyway?

cossie1600 02-10-2012 08:17 PM

How is the resale on the Honda?

I would do it. I want to build a race car too, but not ready to give up the 370 yet

towing..........stuff? :stirthepot:

Mike 02-10-2012 08:29 PM

private party is showing about 19500 on it right now with KBB, 18900 with edmunds. I paid 22 out the door for it last february, and I owe a little less than 12 on it. So if I can get 19, I can net 7, which would be about what I can get an 03 Z for. Plus no more payment as the 370 is also paid off.

that sounds like a win-win to me honestly...

Mike 02-10-2012 08:34 PM

yeah, I paid 20500 before taxes and its worth 19 a year later. Trade in is in the high 17s.

cossie1600 02-10-2012 09:31 PM

$4K hit isnt too bad for a new car

Assuming you keep going forward with this (looks like you are), let me know when these become available. They're one of the options I've been looking at, and timing/budget-wise I'd like to do my coilover upgrade sometime in the next month or two.

Mike 02-13-2012 11:16 AM

will do. As soon as the honda sells, I'll be starting to demod.

SPOHN 02-13-2012 01:09 PM

Pending Patrick and yourself. I may be interested in the trailor also. We'll see.

WWJD 02-13-2012 01:16 PM

Sorry I wanna ask something out of topic. Are 350z parts expensive? How much do we normally need to pay to build a very decent 350z for track? Chassis set up, power mods, wheels tires, interior, etc.
From my own calculation, it will end up the same as building a 370z?

i was going to say, you probably could use it more than i honestly. it'd probably be overkill for what i need a trailer for (golf cart)

Red__Zed 02-13-2012 01:35 PM

Wow, crazy.

Although the z class looks to be pretty cool.

Yeah but you can get a used 03-08 350Z pretty cheap these days compared to a used or new 370Z. More importantly it's a Spec series, which means you get a limited set of standard modifications and pretty much everyone on the track is running the same thing. Means you spend less time and money on car setup and more on driving :)

I've been talking to a local guy that builds custom trailers so that loading my car would be easy. It has 4'' drop spindle and 5' ramp. And the price he wants is a very good deal. But I know Mike's car is lower than mine with the Stillen clip and his works. If I could get a deal I'd be interested. The trailer world is funny business.

But it's your call pending what Mike wants. I still can't believe this though. I love your car Mike.

Mike 02-13-2012 02:41 PM

for now, I'm going to keep my trailer. I forgot that by selling the CRZ, I have a garage spot for the race car. And, If I were to sell the trailer, it would be around $5000, as I paid $6500 for it new two years ago and the design is no longer in manufacture. I got the last new one in the entire USA. Had to go to Langley VA to get it.

As far as setting up a 350 vs. 370, probably about the same. But since this is a spec series, the only thing I can do is HFC, Exhaust and a specific set of coilovers and sway bars, pretty much. Almost everything else needs to stay stock.

You can get an 03 for around 8000, and then another 6000 in cage, seat, suspension and other prep and you are done.

SPOHN 02-13-2012 02:53 PM

^ Man. That's an expensive trailer.

I'd also try to get a 350 with the uprev/ rev up (whatever it was) motor which would put you at a 06 model

HKYStormFront 02-13-2012 02:58 PM

yea that'd be 3-4x more expensive than the golf cart i'd need it for :bowrofl:

Actually the 07-08 HR motor would be the best. The 06 was only slightly better than 03-05 but the HR motor was the best motor for the 350z hands down.

HKYStormFront 02-13-2012 03:31 PM

i think it has to be an 03-05 motor to keep the playing field level

/threadjack

wstar 02-13-2012 04:13 PM

SpecZ rules are here, and they're allowing all of 03-08: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/s...rules_2012.pdf. The later-model ones get a higher horsepower limit, but also have a higher minimum competition weight. So an '08 is 275rwhp max and 3300 min weight, whereas an '03 is 258 and 3100.

SPOHN 02-13-2012 04:29 PM

At least you can remove the AC

yes, but its unique!

Gonna go with an 03/04. Trying to keep it affordable. plus, with the weights, they theoretically all should perform about the same.

SPOHN 02-13-2012 06:06 PM

You coming to ZDayZ right?

definitely! Haven't missed one yet! Maybe you missed it, I'm selling the Honda and keeping the Z as a street car.

Megan370z 02-13-2012 07:42 PM

Mike , Im gonna cross my finger to help you selling the CRZ ! :)
I need that spoiler ! hehe

Mike 02-13-2012 09:58 PM

The CRZ has black wheels. I've posted trying to trade someone for stock, because I think they will eliminate 90% of potential buyers. If I still have them next week, I'm powdercoating them silver or light gray metallic to make the car more sellable.
