I'm not sure of the exact amount, but I think I picked up about 10mph on the esses at Road Atlanta, I do know for sure that the car feels much more planted with the GTC300 I have. I lost 7mph top end on the main straight though. Mine is set at the lowest setting of 0 degrees angle of attack.

Btw, Chris and Josh if ya'all read this, how did your oil temps fare for the day?

Mine didnt cross 230 and as soon asi hit my cooldown lap it was 200 or below by the time i hit the pits.

Wow that's nice and low. I guess the longer high speed sections helps a bit with cooling though, and presumably you guys are running 25 or 34 -row coolers? What was ambient like?

i was running 34 z1. ambient read around 88 when on the track that i remember.

the long straights might have helped but we were also gunning it up into 5th gear on those. and I generally checked the oil right as i hit the straight/banks as i have time during that time.

Well running into the bottom of 5th for the straights means high speed cooling airflow plus low RPMs, it's all good for the oil temps.

Spohn your car sounded amazing out on the track.

: ) not bottom of 5th. the rpm's were above 5k. I dont believe my rpm's dropped below 4k at any point on the track.

Thanks. I got a lot of comments on it.

I have the 34R also. My temps stayed about 220/230. But on my last session I hit 250. But temps were 90 and I defiantly was pushing it harder. But it would cool down quickly. I just put it in 5th on the cool down lap and was back to 200.

its not so much revs in the 5s. its the time you spend at 7s that bake the oil

oviously. but i only went into 5th if my 4th was at 7's...

and only into 4th if 3rd was in 7's... etc etc.

Yeah on my last MSR-H day, I would get up to 240 pretty quick and then semi-stabilize, and then it would slowly creep out towards 250-255 the longer I stayed out there. But (a) I'm a on 19-row, and (b) on the longest straight I couldn't quite finish 4th gear, so I spent a lot of time crawling through the high range to get just short of the top and then never get to upshift.

I'm planning to stick with my 19-row for the rest of this year as the ambient temps are only going to continue dropping now, but I want to upgrade before the hot season next year. Either slap on a 25/34R cooler, or *maybe* look at doing something crazy like dropping the oil:air cooler, upgrading the radiator, and doing an oil:water heat exchanger.

Should be less hose length / pressure drop / weight from that setup anyways, and I suspect it will actually cool better (just based on the fact that AM Perf is running this setup for very long hardcore races). Still waiting to see how Travis's plays out first though.

I wouldn't mind doing the heat exchanger either. But thinking of going a oil pan spacer also.

I have Z1 25 row and my oil temp high that I saw was 245 maybe 250. but for the most part stayed around 230.

It was nice to see us three there together in the video. I wish we were not in traffic for most of the video. And I really wish I had a video of my 3rd run. I know that was by far my fastest run.

But it was a good write up Chris. For me it was my first track event as well and could not have put it better. I hope to make it out to several more events, I'm hooked now! Time to start stockpiling tires and brake pads.

i saw a photo of your car on Patrick's thing. Those door handles looked good :p

Nismo221 09-28-2011 02:55 PM

Yeah he has several, and I'm buying all the pics he took of my car! I talked to him last night and he said he had a few more he just has to edit them. Can't imaging having to go through all the photos like he does. Also I'm going to see about having him enter them in to the 2012 Calendar that was in the Z Nationals booklet. Its at Down Shift Calendars
