Start Line "incident" in West Australia round of V8 Super Car Championship

Last Sunday's race start at Barbagallo Raceway was incident packed ....

75 litres of E85 fuel went up in smoke - thankfully, both drivers are OK. Minor burns to the hands of the driver of the car in front - received when he put his hands onto the metalwork of the car as he exited the vehicle, and the driver of the car that hit him (impact speed 143kph - peak decelration was 42G ofr around 5milliseconds) has bruised testicles (quoted as being the size of baseballs) from the 6-point harness. Neck injury avoided as these guys all use HANS devices ... and all wear triple layer suits, gloves, nomes socks and fireproofed boots, nomex balaclava's under the helmets and with an additional layer of nomex underwear as well.

Scary stuff.

Wow what a crazy wreck. I've never seen anything like that before.

Saw this over the weekend... pretty crazy! Fire is a racer's worst nightmare.

I wish Speed (or someone) would show V8 Supercars sooner than 6-8 months after the checkers here in the US.

Usually you can pick up the live stream on Justin.tv.

Incredible. This goes to show the importance of fire-proof racing suits, gloves, etc. I'm also a little disappointed in the rescue crew. Watch as the truck pulls up by the burning car, and the rescue worker on camera is walking with the extinguisher WHILE THE DRIVER IS STILL IN THE BURNING CAR! That guy needed more hustle.
