Wheels for the track

So i am looking to get some wheels(and tires) to dedicate for track use.
Three questions:
1) as far as i can see 18 as opposed to the oem 19 inch sizes are common, why?
2) with the factory 18 and 19 inch wheels being pretty light weight why should i not pick up a used set from ebay instead of going with aftermarket?
3) what wheels are you running for road course and drag strip. I will be doing both. :driving:

Thanks!

18" tires are a bit cheaper, and 18" wheels weigh less.

used ones are a great option, especially if you find a deal.

I'm running 18x9.5 350z Track model Rays that I had widened, Nismo S-tune 19" accessory wheels and now forgestar F14s in 18x10. I like BFG R1 r-compound tires and Yokohama AD-08s.

This is more ammo for arguing 18" for track use. FFWD to about 8min for the Z comparison. Judging by his consistency, he's an excellent driver. Too bad it wasn't blinded though.

Thanks for the info! Excellent vid. It sounds like 18" is the way to go... Although I don't anticipate having to deal with the 315km/hr issue... hahaha
Any caliper clearance issues putting 18s over the stock sport rotors?

Cossie, PM me pics and info may be interested.

18s fit the stock sport brakes just fine. if you later go aftermarket, there may be problems unless you stick to 14" stoptech or ap kits. I have the brembo front upgrade that uses stock rotors and they don't clear 18s well at all. just about 2mm clearance.

5zige, about 20lbs a piece, tires are pirelli corsa 285 30 18, older tires, good for testing and temporary use

I agree. It would have been better if he didn't know which wheels he was on.

If you notice in the video they placed the wheel size as his car numbers. Probably for video editing purposes later on. But they could have easily used X and Y instead. I would have liked to hear his comments had the test been blind.
