NICE! I too am aiming for 12's. Can't wait to hit the strip..

spearfish25 02-19-2011 01:24 PM

Great runs. What are your thoughts on the flywheel. I've been getting some temptation to swap mine. How much more freely does the engine rev?

m4a1mustang 02-19-2011 02:14 PM

Congrats! Great times. Fantastic 60' there, magic shoes. :tup:

Viera 02-19-2011 02:37 PM

Nice times!

red6spd 02-19-2011 02:58 PM

Congrats. I hope to hit 12's as well when I hit the track, but the last three times we had reservations to rent Atco in NJ it rained. Maybe next time.

CrownR426 02-19-2011 06:06 PM

Damn!
Why aren't you modding some more?!

tranceformer 02-19-2011 06:38 PM

Thanks everyone! When I finished the run I thought I had a 12.9xx - little did I know I did slightly better! Feels good to finally hit my goal.

I highly recommend it, as Jnaut recommended it to me. I actually had his shop install it all the other day. Went straight from the shop to the track!

Atco is definitely a quick track (I used to live in NJ). Definitely faster than Englishtown from what I've heard.

I've gone full bolt ons before with my last Z and wasn't completely happy. This time around I only plan to install the 'best bang for your buck' mods. With that said I'll probably have jnaut install 4.08 gears later on, maybe throw in some solid diff bushings too while he's in there.

tranceformer 02-19-2011 06:51 PM

BTW, I'm very pleased with the mods installed. Great job by Jnaut's shop. :tup:

my best stock time
13.127 @ 105.27 mph
DA = -421
temp = 54 degrees F

with high flow cats & jwt flywheel
12.899 @ 107.64 mph
DA = 620
temp = 70 degrees F

The numbers don't lie. Even without taking into consideration the DA's I picked up 0.228 seconds on the ET and 2.37 mph with just two mods.

tyler20c 02-19-2011 06:59 PM

What exactly does the flywheel do for you?

The motor rev's a lot quicker because a significant amount of weight was removed from the flywheel. It really wakes up the car. And as a result SRM works a lot better too. Not that expensive for the part itself, maybe $400 or so depending on which one you get. Only downsides are the noise at low rpm's & idle, that and it might be difficult or pricey to install because the transmission has to be dropped to install it.

What kind of noises does it make? and any idea on how expensive of an install?

Cmike2780 02-19-2011 07:15 PM

Those are huge gains over stock for just the Berks hfc and flywheel. Were the primary gains due to the flywheel or HFC's? Did you do any runs with just the HFC's?

jnaut 02-19-2011 07:17 PM

rayray puttin it down 12.8's is awesome!!

at idle, its kinda same noise as stock just a little louder. maybe some buzzing (i guess thats the word?) in 1st & 2nd from idle to 1500 but not that big of deal IMO. Stock is a dual-mass flywheel that dampens all these noises but stock is also about 30lb.

The cost is about the same cost as a clutch job. It's a perfect mod to do if your clutch is toast, you save on labor.

My car has never been on a dyno, so I have no idea how much power each of the mods make. But I definitely think the flywheel registers more of a difference on the butt dyno than the HFC's.

I didn't do any runs with just the cats alone.

yeah we're definitely lucky to have such a sticky track!

red6spd 02-20-2011 08:29 AM

A light weight flywheel had to be one of the best mods I ever did on my G20 and I'm sure it will b on the Z when I do it, but I only got 6400 miles so its probably going to be a while.

I'm gonna be in the 12s before you :rofl2:

I'll let you take my Accord down the track if you let me drive the Z :stirthepot:

what are your times on the Accord?

brian0128 03-06-2011 12:02 PM

Congrats on the 12 second timeslip.

b1adesofcha0s 03-06-2011 01:50 PM

Congrats on the time!

If I'm correct, flywheel is only for manual transmissions? Is there something that would provide similar performance enhancements for a 7AT? I know 4.08 gears is DB option, but I DD my Z and spend most of my time on the highway, so I don't think I want to go that route.

Jordo! 03-06-2011 02:23 PM

Wow -- open dif too! Congrats!

Has anyone found any real advantage to having the LSD?

Higher stall torque converter.

Having a tune so that the shift speed/firmness is tweaked (it's tunable with uprev).

chuckd05 03-06-2011 03:29 PM

is your track level ? lol

Ohhhh... I thought he said base model, so I assumed, no sport pack :p

So are all the faster times from folks with a LSD then, OEM or otherwise?

spearfish25 03-06-2011 10:32 PM

Probably doesn't matter for drag racing. The limited slip comes into play much more when you're powering out of corners and the rear tires are unequally weighted.

chuckd05 03-06-2011 11:33 PM

I ran my 12.9 on an open diff. Havent went back with the 4.08s and vlsd
