Smallest diameter wheel to fit over Sport Brakes?

Has anyone tested to see what's the smallest sized wheel that will fit over the Akebonos?

Diameter wise is 18" for the front. No question on that one. As for offset, that depends on the individual rim model you're considering.

i have a volk t-37 18 x 10.5 + 15 fits the back perfectly.

Jeffblue 10-15-2010 05:10 PM

18's for sure or 19's with a stepped lip

I'm more curious on the rear. I'm wondering if a 17" would fit for a drag setup.

I think it would on the rear

18" wheels

I share your interest, 98, but more for road-&-track for me, vs. your drag racing. Despite many searches on this site, I have yet to find (in one place) an inventory of 18" wheels/offsets known to work on the Z-Sport Package. It would sure be nice to have such an index for those of us looking for smaller, lighter wheels for competition and mountain twisties. Take care. :iagree:

the issue with wheels and big brake kits isn't the offset, its the clearance or "x-factor" its the distance between the hub mounting surface and the spokes, which is determined by the thickness of the 'back pad.' the front akebono (sport package) brake requires 50mm of clearance and the rear requires 23mm. the width and offset is just going to deremine how aggresive/what the stance of the car is. that will be the same regardless of wheel diameter.

The question, IMO is will a 17" diameter wheel fit the rear of an Akebono equipped 370Z (so the OP can use a better drag slick). That answer is NO. The smallest diameter wheel to fit with these brakes (front or rear) is an 18" wheel. (offsets and backspacing is a different subject alltogether)

Thank you for the answer!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but Im curious as to why the rear wheels can't fit perhaps 16/17" rims since the rear akebonos are much smaller in comparison to the front calipers. I personally would like to run smaller rims in the back so I can beat on $30 tires for drifting purposes compared to $200 hankook v12's
