SO what is the Best tracked tested Oil cooler?
I live here in San Antonio and it gets extreme here, after reading all these threads about oil cooling, I dont think I really even wanna drive around town without it. I've read about 25 row cooler and I saw the Z1 cooler, but has anyone actually track tested and abused one with with good results? thank you so much! FYI I most definatley plan to track my Z....

I'm using the 25 row cooler.
all what i can get out of it is a worm up lap fallowed by 2 flying laps. Oil temp reaches close to 250F at the end of the second lap. I tried doing 4 laps oil temp reached close to 260F. 260F maybe fine(coz i didn't reach any limp mode), but i just don't feel comfortable pushing my engine over 250F. |

Sorry, forgot to mention that track length, configuration and weather will have a big impact on the oil temp. So in my case i could do 2 flying laps with an air temp 85~95F,
CIRCUIT INFO Length: 5 380 m / 3.343 miles Right corners: 10 Left corners: 6 Longest straight: 1 068 m/0.664 miles Hope this info helps. |
Anyone know what the 350 actually ran at since there is no gauge?
I am using a 25R cooler, I have a tough time getting over 185 on the street in 90F weather. I will find out what I will run at the track in late July |

so the 3.7 doesnt really run that much higher, except we have a gauge to see it. I don't recall hitting limp mode even after 30 minutes of track time.
I predict Nissan will remove the oil temp gauge before they install an oil cooler |
i have 30r and i have to beat the hell out of it to reach 210 degrees, but soon i am putting a fan on the cooler itself

AE Performance Oil Cooler kit!
Don't think their is another kit on the market that is track tested as much as this one. Used by other top shops including Sharif at Forged, Mike from Double Down, Drift Speed, etc. If you going to do lapping events, espically where you live your options are limited to for a cooler that will give you the cooling you need. Ask around! |
Oil cooler is next on my list.. its 95+ degrees here, this fourth of July weekend in NY and my car absolutely HATES it..
I had my oil temp 250 just driving spiritedly to the mall ( 100 degree day )... never saw it higher than 240 EVER... now since than its gotten hotter and I feel the car hesitating to go, in this heat the car does not pull nearly as hard when it gets up to temp... I'm def interested in getting one |
I'm using the Stillen large oil cooler with an oil thermostat (because it does get cold in Cleveland.)
At Watkins Glen, temps in the 90s, and VIR, temps in the 95 range, I had no "limp mode" issues. I am a very experienced driver who is able to use full throttle as much as possible. It's been over 90 in Cleveland this week. In normal street driving (like the old man that I am) oil temp never exceeds an indicated 180. I'm satisfied. See the "Datzun 370Z at the Track" thread for my comments. And nice pictures. |
