Incredible Driving!

All I can say is "holy $hit". I think it's safe to say that anyone who does track days longs to be able to drive like this...

insane!

djpathfinder 06-05-2010 09:26 PM

Nice work. Good control of the power induced oversteer!

Red370 06-05-2010 09:31 PM

what is that guy driving anyways?

m4a1mustang 06-05-2010 09:33 PM

Gotta love those old race cars that have no grip. :)

Duel Motorsport Porsche 911

LateralG'z 06-05-2010 10:08 PM

that was sick!

Togo 06-05-2010 11:47 PM

that's insane.. absolutely insane.. there is a whole left hand turn where he is turning the steering wheel to the right!!!! :D

buddahson 06-06-2010 12:13 AM

Nice. This is one of my favorites:

Look at the traffic....I didn't notice anyone trading paint.

SmoothZ 06-06-2010 09:15 AM

:eek2: That was crazy. Whoever says that racing isn't physical on the driver doesn't know what it takes to do that for hours or grew up on Xbox. :D

Did I really see an old Ford Fairlane and a Jag in that video?

Sharif@Forged 06-06-2010 09:21 AM

That car is setup ridiculously loose. He would be much faster if he dialed out some of the oversteer. Terrific car control, and fun to watch. :)

Not sure that's possible :). It's an "early" 911 which is a technical term for 911s from 1967 through 1973. It's likely he's competing in a class restricted race which probably means there is not much he can do to alter the factory setup

m4a1mustang 06-06-2010 10:38 AM

Probably on some silly bias-ply tire, too.

spearfish25 06-06-2010 12:09 PM

Figured out the driver's name is Alexandros Annivas. I just tried to 'friend' him on facebook. Would love to hear more about that car and experience.

Update:
Hmmm, turns out the guy who posted the video claims to be driver. His name is Pascal Pandelaar. He was driving a 1965 Porsche 911 on 'classic' Dunlop tires.

LunaZ 06-06-2010 12:57 PM

He lifted in Eau Rouge.
Fail.

Before you flame me, it's a joke for those of you who know what Eau Rouge is.

Haha, only really slow cars and high downforce cars can make it through without lifting!

dlmartin81 06-07-2010 05:15 PM

OMG!!! that Lotus video is iiiiiiiiiiinsane!! I'd like to know what he was using for tires? While everyone else was braking and coasting through turns, this guy was flooring it!!

On top of that, like someone else mentioned, no one traded paint!

At least play with tire pressure, alignment, and bar. Looked like fun though! :)

Tires explain it all. Pressures, bar, etc won't make a difference on those things. :)

Ever seen the NASCAR stock cars during the bias-ply days? Drifting competitions I tell you!!!

So what are 'classic' tires?

They are tires built to the specifications of whatever the year they are representing. So a '65 "classic" tire is constructed in the exact same way as the actual 1965 tire was. They are typically hard as rocks with little grip compared to a modern radial.

If that car in the video was running on a modern radial racing tire there's no way he'd be sliding as much as he was.

RCZ 06-07-2010 07:13 PM

Fun to watch, but not the most amazing driving ever. Spa is such an amazing track.

One thing I will give him tho, that man has balls. Sliding through eau rouge and the high speed left hand kink before the chicane (which ruined that part of the track IMO, 03 was better) is pretty absurd. Good car control too, looks like he's playing a video game without consequences haha.

Kyle@STILLEN 06-07-2010 07:41 PM

I give him credit for his driving ability but that is absolutely a case of poor tires...Looks like his tires are made of wood...Notice how the rear end is sliding even when he's not on the gas...just like the NASCAR reference earlier, that is exactly what happens with old tires with no grip.

SkyZ 06-07-2010 07:59 PM

hahaha amazing stuff. in a car with the engine that far back on tires with no grip. put me in that situation and i woulda spun a long time ago xD

FairladyFan 06-15-2010 07:22 PM

That catch at 2:50 mark is crazy!

Serious Brass :driving:
