Official Nürburgring TOP 200 lap times

Quote:

This is arguably the most popular most demanding and also longest track for road-car track-days, magazine tests, prototype testing and race events. Originally, the track featured four track configurations: the 28.265 km long Gesamtstrecke ("Whole Course"), which in turn consisted of the 22.810 km Nordschleife ("Northern Loop"), and the 7.747 km Sudschleife ("Southern Loop"). There also was a 2.281 km warm-up loop called Zielschleife, around the pits area. Between 1982 and 1983 the start-finish area was demolished to create a new GP-Strecke, and this is currently used for all major and international racing events. However, the Nordschleife is still in use; nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart, it is widely considered the toughest and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world.

Track lengths and timing

Not all of the following lap times are comparable. A full lap of the Nordschleife, bypassing the modern GP track, is 20.832 km (12.944 mi) long. Most laps are completed 200 metres (656 ft) shorter for safety reasons. Full uninterrupted flying laps can only be done in closed sessions and race events like Castrol-Haugg-Cup.

During the industry testing sessions in which sport auto records its "Supertest", the track can not be traveled at full speed past "Tribüne 13" (T13, grandstand 13) in order to allow safe access from the old exit/entrance there. Thus, sport auto Supertests cover only about 20.6 km (12.8 mi), which in average yields a 7 s shorter lap time compared to a full lap.

There are 5 sections on the 20,600 m (68,000 ft) long Supertest-Nordschleife:

* The first is 3,850 m (2.4 mi)
* The second is 4,235 m (2.6 mi)
* The third is 4,825 m (3.0 mi)
* The fourth is 4,846 m (3.0 mi)
* The fifth is 2,844 m (1.8 mi)
* The total is 20,600 m (12.800 mi)

Some lap times are even claimed to have been done during tourist driving sessions. Because it is forbidden to race on tourist days as it is very dangerous to drive fast among the general traffic one should not try to measure the lap time on a tourist day. As the full main straight cannot be driven at speed due to the modern exit/entrance there, these laps are usually timed "bridge to gantry", which is only 19.1 km (11.9 mi) and thus about 30 seconds shorter. Additionally, there are two speed limits (one in Breitscheid, and one on "Doettinger Hoehe") on tourist days, which also impacts the lap time.

In one of those 370Z reviews, there were whispers that the 370Z completed the lap in the high sevens....

i love the 370z but i would be suprised if it broke 8:00

the new caymanS with the HP bump and PDK was 8:06. and i really dont see it beating that

370sed 02-12-2009 06:17 PM

I'd be wondering if a 370Z (without major cooling mods) made it around the track without overheating. Heck it (apparently) can't go 10min into an HPDE session without going into limp mode...350Z is a different animal...works good on track. And I'm very sorry to have to say that...hopefull I'm wrong...maybe if it can do it in 8:00 or so heehee, and just sneak in before it gets hot...

Just repoting what the comments were. I will see if I can find the review; it is posted around here somewhere....

Comparing each of those to each other is just pure bench/magazine racing. Conditions obviously varied in each individual run. And some of those were a one-attempt run.

They do give you a ballpark reference/range though.

even though the cayman has 320hp compared to the 370 332, I don't think it will beat the cayman.

That's not the HR hence the "283 bhp". That's the DE.

nightfire 07-20-2009 03:16 PM

So does anyone know when nissan plans to test it on the ring?

1slow370 08-31-2009 03:53 AM

I think it will be close if not faster than the Cayman HAVING DRIVEN BOTH and yes it was a new 2010 with DI ad a PDK(which was smooth) and i drove the manual porsche too same day that stick shift is sooooo smooth in the porsche though. I think either they ran it, it broke 8's, and they won't release it because that's a little closer to the gtr than they would like, they ran it and the Viscous blew up on them like the one track day with the nismo where they blew two, or they ran it it over heated 1/4 way around and they covered it up like Roswell because it would show what a lot of people are saying is true.

Oh or they ran it and realized that 155 is too damn low to set the speed limiter on Nordschlief when there is a straightaway that is 2 or 3 miles long.

I believe this is Jim Mero hitting a 7:19 on a run at the Ring. Not sure what qualifies as "official" (or if anyone wants to update the chart above).
