Recommend me a good helmet.

So I'm looking for a good helmet for HPDE/track. Any suggestions? I have a motorcycle helmet I used back in my drifting days but I'm looking for something SA2005+. What are you guys currently running?

Just remember that more expensive does not necessarily mean better in terms of protection (3rd party tests confirm this), however the more expensive ones are often lighter and better ventilated.

If you can, go to a shop that has a variety and try them on. Size does vary between manufacturers.

i found just what i wanted in my g-force pro-eliminator - sa2005, flat black and cost $250 from ron @ http://www.discoveryparts.com/. plenty of helmets/places online so just do a google search for "sa2005 helmets" and decide if you want open face or full face, what color, etc. just make sure its snug. heres mine:

edit: id definitely go with sa2005. sa2010 wont be out til next year but the 2005 will last another 5 years.

Always choose full coverage over open face unless you are not currently happy with the looks of your face

The Bell M4 is really popular here. I bought one from a local shop (Averill Racing Stuff) for ~400. They had me try on a couple of different sizes and told me about how it should fit and what to do if I took a hit on the head.

I have heard good things about SafeRacer too.

I love the Arai GP5/GP5K but its sooo expensive. At this point I'm thinking about going with the HJC AR11 but everywhere I've looked it's discontinued.

I bought a Bell M4 - reasonable price, comfortable, not to heavy, good vision, good ratings

OP, Head buckets are all a personal preference for the most part. It would be best if you went to a location where you can try on different styles, sizes, and brands.

Very decent helmet, and surprisingly light. $379.99 with no graphics.

I know Simpson is actually discontinuing their SA2005 lineup in favor of SA2010 helmets over the next few weeks, but I am unsure of what changes have been made, if any. I remember hearing that there weren't any new developments in safety technology, but I could be wrong. A SA2005 helmet will still be good for many years to come.

Helmets are definitely a personal preference item. A local autocross is a perfect place to get a feel for a variety of choices, especially if there are no tracks in close reach of you. You will definitely need a SA-rated helmet to drive with most track day organizations.
