Want opinions on Drag radials
Alright gentlemen, I just bought two 17" gloss black gram light 57 Pro wheels for the drags, wanted to get some advice on a good drag radial, so far i'm considering the Nitto NTO5R's Nitto NT05R Drag Radial tires - Reviews, ratings and specs in the El Paso Area - Discount Tire/America's Tire And the NT555R's Nitto NT 555R Drag Radial tires - Reviews, ratings and specs in the El Paso Area - Discount Tire/America's Tire
Thoughts, opinions, alternatives would be greatly appreciated. |
Something I found on another (Mustang) site:
Well as you know I'm running the Nitto NT555R. I've got about ~5,000 miles on them with a few track days. I figured they would of lasted me a little bit longer though. I don't baby them really but they are always at optimal tire pressure on the street and the track. I figured 8,000 miles. I've only got about 3" tread on each side of the tire. The center is completely slick. However, I love these tires. I used to be able to mat it with 524 rwhp and barely spin in first on the street. Can't tell me that's not insane! It's an amazing street tire for a high hp car but you better be okay with only getting slightly over 5,000 miles on them. I'm going to get a pair of Nitto NT05s for the rear in a few weeks at most. My car is a real daily driver. According to what I've heard the Nitto NT05s are the best street tire out right now. I've heard the traction is not that much worse than the NT555Rs but the tread life is double! I'm planning on getting a set of dedicated 15" wheels with slicks for the track so this makes the most sense for me right now. Tread Ratings: * NT555R - 100 * NT05 - 200 * NT555 - 300 |
Let us know how these work for you. I'd love to have some DRs but I'd be scared of snapping something.

I have a buddy with a 600 hp 04 Cobra. He pulls 1.70 60ft on the stock suspension (history: Cobra IRS was a hack job) with 555r. I think that should be good enough proof. I havent run anything other than that. Always been happy with them. Extremely sticky.

I think the NT05's and NT05R's are completely different tires, take a look at this contact patch and tell me you'd like these for daily driven duties, haha, especially if it rains!

Haha... I would never drive around with those. I'd just swap them out at the track.

Exactly, every track day (if its clear), i'll just swap the back two out in the garage, drive the 5 miles to the track, do the deed, get home and then swap em back in the morning, hence why i'm going with DR's and not slicks. Thanks for the input gentlemen, I was leaning toward the 555's, but what I like about the NTO5R's is that once all the tread is gone, they act like a slick, I could probably get more life out of them.

I just got a set on mickey thompson drag radial 11 for my 370z sport.
I got volk t -37 rims. 18 x 10.5 +15 The tires are 305 35 18's There should be no traction problem's I cut 1.96 60 ft times with the stock 19 inch tire's. |
do you think our axles are strong enough not to snap when that rush of torque hits?

When I ran street tires on my g, I could only muster an occasional 2.1, with mostly 2.2's; after the jwt flywheel, those numbers only got worse. Remember that the g is heavier and has a longer wheelbase.
I then went with some 26" BFG DR's mounted on 16" enkeis. I then regularly cut low 1.9's with an occasional high 1.8 sixty. That was good for a consistent 0.3 to 0.35 drop in the sixty. But because I no longer experience wheelhop with the DR's, I picked up over a half-second on the big end. Wheelhop out of the hole with hurt you worse than even moderate wheelspin. The BFG's have seen well over 150 passes. They're getting pretty bare now, but there's another 30 to 50 passes left in them. They provide great traction, just be sure that you light em up first. I usually run around 15 psi (cold). I've tried lower, but I would just bog the **** out of the car. Those 150+ passes have been at 6k to 7k rpm clutch drops, or with extremely short feathering. Traction won't snap things at near stock power levels if you preload the clutch(but that's good way to kill your clutch). Just remember that you can drive home with a slipping clutch - you can't drive home with a broken halfshaft. |
Eliminator, when do we get to see those tires?!
|
Set of Kosei K1's and some Hoosier slicks. Bout all you need. If you aren't a fan of the Hoosier's, Mickey T's are your next best bet. The Nitto's are decent, but not on the same level as the Hoosiers or Mickey Thompsons.

will 17s fit on the back??
|
Red has a Base model, as do i, and i dont think it will be a problem, but not sure about with the sport brakes
|
Had the NT555Rs on my trans am, and GTO. Weren't as sticky as I was expecting them to be (still better than streets), but the tread lasted much longer than I was expecting. If I still had any of my old racing slips, I would tell you how much I reduced of my drag times. It was worth the purchase.

Oh man my Roxy gets whored out fellas, like you dont know. Sucks for the guy that gets her when I trade in for the 400Z :)

Hey Red I'm bringing your thread back from the dead. I have a 2009 G sedan with the sport package (Akebono brakes, 18" wheels). I'm looking for some wheels and drag radials that will fit on the back w/o looking ricerish. Looks like I'd go with the 285/35/18 555R but they are over 11 inches wide. Did you end up getting the drag radials, if so what wheels did you mount them on?
