A very interesting 370Z Track video from Japan

Hmmm.. take a look...

Is it the fuel starvation issue? Is it the ABS? could it be the VLSD??

Here's his video info (I translated via yahoo translator and it didn't make sense at all :icon14:)

When Tsukuba 2000, 2 times travelling until now, nothing occurred, but 3rd with ABS lamp illumination and the lock. As for Z34 because of the smart key, it is very inconvenient not to be able to make simply ignition off. Repeatedly hitting the start button with reverse side straight, stopping the engine, you turn off the lamp. Don't you think? it is difficult,… it lit up frequently with the drift of the rain, but with Tsukuba it is unprecedented

To me, since he is talking about stuff lighting up, it almost seems like a traction control of sorts. I would think he'd be smart enough to fully turn that off though. Perhaps he is left foot braking and getting the cut with gasing and braking. He mentioned the abs light, does that illuminate when one left foot brakes while giving it gas in a Z?

That is an interesting video... from what I can see and understand. The car went into ice mode and they were trying to shut it off and turn it back on on the back straight to get rid of the ABS light. I'm not sure if that helps with the issue (doubt it), but they seem to be as clueless as we are to the cause.

My theory on ice mode:

Brakes overheat and become useless. Even though the car senses the driver is on the brakes 100%, it fails to slow down triggering ABS. That's what causes the "sliding on pebbles" feel.

That's why when you switch the pads to something that doesn't overheat then that more or less fixes the issue.

What the hell is with the sound of that car? That alone sounds like a problem. I've never heard my car's drivetrain whine like that except for going very slowly in first gear. That car has bigger issues at hand...

travisjb 02-09-2010 11:57 PM

regarding the sound, the loudness of it prob has something to do with where they placed the mic... he may also have aftermarket bits contributing to the way it sounds

I was tempted to chalk this up to fuel starvation, which I've experienced at least a dozen times... but fuel starvation on our cars is a lot more likely to happen in the middle of or near the end of a hard RIGHT hand turn, whereas this car seemed to experience issues in other parts of the track... so, frankly not sure... could be an ABS computer issue, as RCZ mentions, but seems like a stretch b/c he seems to have been having problems accelerating out of turns

Could he have just been past the 260 mark, limp mode

batman_4 02-10-2010 12:57 AM

that thing sounds like it has a sequential tranny. hm

It sounded like a sequential box to me....but that's just fantasy.

I think they weren't having problems accelerating, i think they didnt want to because they had no brakes.

Maybe starvation issue.. even if he wasn't turning right when it first happened. Could also be running very very low on fuel (which doesn't make a lot of sense since he look like an experienced driver...).

I think they weren't having problems accelerating, i think they didnt want to because they had no brakes.

I think it was a racing gearbox or differential with straight cut gears, may not be sequential though.

I agree with what looks like a braking problem, he deliberately shut the car off on the back straight and then restarted it.

RCZ 02-13-2010 04:26 PM

I can't tell, I think you're right though. Definitely not stock gears.

I had my friend do some translating:

The title is abs ramp light
First comment is "funfuntanoshi"
Next he talks about how he kind of ****** up a turn and even though the ground was black it turned out it wasn't really part of the track
Then something about the brake. (couldn't read a key part of the sentence and couldn't copy/paste it to look it up)
Oh thank god that the engine picked back up

In the side text my friend says he is complaining about bad things happening to him at this track and the conditions.

I'll edit the post if he gets any more. :)

RCZ 02-16-2010 08:23 AM

^ lol

funfuntanoshi is my new user title.
