Manual Trans Oil Cooler

Hey guys
nothing came up on the search, only the stillen auto oil coolers, but i need one for the manual.

anyone running one?

Rusty 01-30-2021 01:51 PM

No one is running one that I know of. One guy WAS going to put a temp sensor in and monitor the temps. But he has not posted anything. That's been months now.

There was a gunmetal gen 1 Nismo.....can’t remember if it was a trans or diff cooler....it was a long time ago, when I was a newb here, long before the MA diff cooler came out.

I had his profile page saved in my favorite. But now, somehow the link came back dead. His username was supposed to be “champion” if I am correct. User search came back negative now though. Dang it....

The auto already has a pump and lines. All you need is a core and reroute some lines from the cooler in the radiator to the new core.

The manual it splash oiled so you'll need a pump to circulate the fluid along with lines and a core. Depending on were you want to mount it you might need/want a fan like Rusty has on his diff cooler

What makes you think you need a cooler for your MT? I'd get some temperature measurements before going to all the trouble/expense of installing pump, lines, radiator, etc.

If temps are actually higher than what you are comfortable with, changing the trans fluid to a different type, viscosity, etc, may help.

To install a lube cooler for the manual tranny will cost you over $500.00. Need a quality cooler that has to be mounted in the rear. A Tilton continuous duty pump mounted in the rear. Plus your stainless AN-10 hoses and fittings. You have to use a banjo fitting on the bottom of the tranny to pump the fluid out. IF you are lowered. You WILL wipe out that fitting the first time you scrap. You have to drill and tap a hole in the side of the tranny for a temp sensor near the bottom. I've put a lot of thought into this a while back. It's not worth it unless you are pro level racer.

ahhh gotcha, i thought it would work like an oil cooler without the fan....but makes sense now

You might have boiled the diff lube. It's been known to happened. It smells ready bad. It goes out the vent tube and lays in the rear sub-frame.

If it came out of the tranny vent tube. You could see a trail on the tranny. Can you? No one I know has ever boiled lube out of the tranny. If you did. I'm thinking you over filled it.

do I just wait til it goes away? i had just put mt90 and 75w90 thats the reason it could be both, and I dont know which one

I think the trans fluid might have been overfilled but im not sure cause theres no trail on the tranny

I have never boiled gear or engine oil before, never even herd of it. Hydraulic fluid yes, coolant yes.
1. Do you have a PS cooler?
2. Are your fluid levels correct after the boil?
2A. PS
2B. Clutch
2C. Brake
