Mk60 abs

I recently retrofitted my 370z with the BMW MK60 ABS unit with custom mapping for my setup. Took it to the track and struggled with the feel and modulation. Lot of lockup and instability. Could be me just getting used to it (driver issue), but I’m wondering if I have an install issue. Doesn’t anyone else out there have one, and if so do you mind comparing notes. Thank you.

sub'd for more info as im curious.

How much did the retrofit cost you?

$3,100 for unit, including harness, yaw and custom programming to my car’s specs. Install takes 4-6 hours.

Also curious about this. Was the instability and lockup consistently there? Or was it very inconsistent? I drove an E46 M3 all year for autoX and found the behavior was heavily surface dependent.

If early lockup and instability is always there, are you able to tune brake bias to be less rear, and more front?

So far the issue is on all surfaces. I also suspect that I installed my yaw sensor upside down. There are really no installation instructions provided for the 370Z, so I mounted the yaw in the orientation of a US E46, which I now believe was upside down. The MK60 version that I have is the MK60e1, which I believe is the euro version. This may have caused my instability. I'm back out at an all-day testing day in a few weeks, and plan to try different orientations to see if that helps.

I don't have the ability to adjust brake bias unfortunaly. Still using OEM pedal box unfortunately. That may be the next upgrade though.

FWIW, I was watching a recording of the TC America racing series from March 2020 at Circuit of the Americas.. There was a 370Z racing (and he won). An announcer said that, in prior racing, he was having ABS issues and ended up going with a Bosch unit. The only downfall was that he lost the auto-blip (as you described). The solution was learning heal-toe.

But who knows, maybe you can find a better solution :) Good luck!

That Bosch system is 10k. Valkyrie Autosports runs it on their 370z. They also use an aftermarket pedal box and Motec ECU. You can have your cake and eat it too all it takes is lots and lots of money!

Ordered a bolt on blipper from auto-blip.com. Thanks Mick B for the suggestion. Will install it this weekend and report out on how it works.

I'm just saying, heel toeing is a lot less expensive and more interactive. Since my Z has been down I have had to learn how to heel toe driving my Miata. Now I'm not sure if I will use the rev match or S mode because it seems to be a little slow at times with hard braking from a high speed. I used to have to fight to get a good down shift from 4th to 3rd and it was horrible if that braking was on a down hill section.

That f’in sucks. I was hoping there would be some decent alternative to spending 10k :shakes head:

I should just sell the Z and get a $2,000 Honda :wtf2:

I got my diff cooler from them. Good guys to work with. When you say they have experience, are you referring to the blipper or the MK60? Thanks.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea because of all the aftermarket support out there. Unfortunately the support isn’t here for the Z platform, you say buy a 2,000 dollar and you end up putting 30k into it to be competitive. Folks who think like that don’t help the platform or companies to be interested in developing solutions to overcome these common issues. You want a race car that handles without any issues buy a porsche or nut up and buy a motec with a pdm and start tuning to get everything dialed in. That’s my next step for my Z. I could buy a gtr, corvette or Porsche but it all about pacing your own way and seeing how good it can be. Look at what Sasha did with his 350z.
