how cold is too cold? for tires
Have some RS4s that have been sitting in my house waiting for warmer weather. I'm in TX so its almost here!! My question is the lowest "OK" temp to have 200tw tires on.
I have a HPDE event at the end of next month but the overnight temps will still see lower 40s. Will i be ok with them on at that temp or will i run the risk of flat spots? Really don't wanna go out in all season sports i have but i also don't want to destroy alo$ of tire! thanks! |
Just make sure you warm up the tires you will be fine. I did my fastest lap just last month in weather you described. I was on rs3

Thanks for the info!

You can drive them down in the teens if you want. You just need to wait for them to come up to temperature which takes a while. Some tires do have a minimum temp to be driven on or they will crack and become junk.

For that temperature, I think it becomes a concern if the car is stationary for an extended period of time...like storage. For just an overnight, I don't think you'll have any problem, at least nothing permanent.

If you are worried about flat spots, get a floor jack and a set of jack stands. If you are going to park for more than a day or the temp gets too low, jack 'er up and get the wheels off the ground.

You will be fine at the track. If the temps are in the 40s during your first session keep you tire pressure a two or three psi above what you run at the track normally. Just give your tires a chance to come up to temp on the first lap or two.
Your in Texas and don't see extended periods of cold so that shouldn't be an issue with the tires at all. If the car is stored for months at a time then do as what was recommended above. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |
which HPDE event? I'm at MSRC every couple of months (usually with Edge Addicts) and will be doing COTA on Mar 14.
