Do we know or is there a way to find out what tires / setup successful b street 370z auto crossers are running?

Perhaps later in the year I want to upgrade my tires to give me the best possible chance at being somewhat competitive and have the most fun.

I’ve read all 1100 posts of the meaty tire thread and became really overwhelmed with all the different setups. At the end I was thinking with just staying with the stock staggered setup on the sport rims with upgraded rubber. Then I came over here and saw some people having success with a “squared” setup.

Definitely leaning towards the RE-71R, but not sure on the sizes.

Trying to stay in b street so no lowering springs. I’m a bit scared to go to smaller diameter tires where the car looks lifted.

Any help appreciated!

If you have sport model and 19's, 285 35 19 square works really well. If you are on 18's you will want to run the 275 35 18 square. 275 40 18 is available in some of the less competitive tires and would keep your gearing and appearance closer to stock.

I had a lot of fun driving my car in BS for about 3 seasons.

Thanks for the reply. I’m running the sport 19” Rays. Looking at the tire size calculator I would gain about 1.5” on the front and little less than a 0.5” on the rear. My only concern is that it’s calling for at least a 9.5” wide wheel for that size. I’m guessing you were able to get them on. Did it help with some of the understeer?

For tire size what Brendan said is pretty spot on. For actual brand and tire model last I knew the RE-71R and Rival S's were the hot tires to have. Both had their pro's and con's but either one could be competitive. Best bet is to ask around within the autox community and not just Z owners.

Or for even more fun jump up to BSP and play on Hoosiers.

Thanks for the advice and confirmation! I’m pretty sold on the idea of squaring up on 285/35.

I’m somewhat a casual autoxer so not willing to make the commitment to get the car ready for BSP, at least for a few years. Do you know any good forums for autox?

Awesome thank you! I’m a member of the Steel Cities Region. I did four events last year. I intend on doing at least 7/10 events this upcoming year.

Toledo would be a nice drive from Pittsburgh along the turnpike and a change of pace! See if I can make it during the summer.

Looking for confirmation on a 285 35 19 square setup on 2014+ sport rays. After doing some research and seeing it would require a 9.5” - 11” wide wheel I wanted to double check since the front sport rays are only 9” wide.

Also I do have a 10mm or 15 mm spacer if needed for clearance. Edit: Stock suspension, no plans for a drop.

275/35-19 fit the front sport Rays fine and no clearance issues. You could go wider on the wider rear rims.

What size do you suggest on the rear?

I had them on my car all season. I liked them better than 275 square. I did have a little issue with the first shop in terms of mounting them. You can do 275 square if you are nervous about finding a shop to mount the 285.

I'm in no rush and I'm assuming tirerack would let me return them if I couldn't get them mounted.

I look at my rear tire now and just find it hard to imagine I can fit that much meat under the front fenders. Crazy! :eek:

I keep going back and forth on this, but you've given me confidence and I'm going to go for it. Worse case, I'd have to deal with exchanging them for 275 square.

fwiw I have a set of 285 Conti ecs's mounted on my OEM Nismo wheels for when I want to drive the car on the street. No problems with them fitting.

Hell given the right size wheels and offsets you can fit 315's up front. Our cars can fit a lot of tire.

:iagree: My track set up is 315 square on 18x11 +18 wheels.

I also run 285/35/19's on the front on a 19x10 wheel. It's not an issue with proper offsets.

I bought my 370z convertible touring sport package used (non nismo). The previous owner put on firehawk 285/35r19 in the back; oem 19' wheels. I haven't had any issues so far.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was mostly worried about the front wheels being 19 X 9 and 285/35 calling for a wheel wider than 9.5”

I remember having that as a concern as well. I ran 275/285 front rear for a season and while it was ok, the 285 square was that much better. The car was easier to rotate on the brakes and was faster through slaloms. Check with your local club to see if there a shop that is used to shoehorning a wider tire on.

Was able to get the tires mounted last night and do a quick test fit with the car up on jacks for the winter.

Looks like everything is going to fit, even without any spacers. Overall I'm pretty happy with them.

Kind of disappointed with losing the low-profile look on the fronts. The 285s hang over the edge more than I'd like. Probably go with 275s next year. Needless to say -- it'll be difficult to curb my wheels now.

I'm more interested in how they are going to drive. After that first autocross run, I'll probably quickly forget how they "look".
