Exhaust recommendation for track

Hi guys!

Being track for more than a year with Tomei testpipe + Tomei full catback and have to say I don’t quite enjoy the noise anymore (it is getting obnoxious to me even wearing ear plugs). Also it is too low for you to lower the car. I know it is great weight saving but wanna swap some other catback for track (plan to keep the test pipe for now). What are you folks running on track and how do you like it? Any other feel too loud with Tomei also? Haven’t been to LRP / Palmer for a while because of decibel restriction. Thank you!

Hi from NJ too! I switch to AAM short tails non resonated. It's a bit annoying to keep swapping so I am looking into cutouts (either manual or QTP electric ones). Weight savings is nice, but its isn't a big issue in reality since it's towards the bottom. I think I am only lowered around a 0.5" since I already have clearance issues with the front bumper. The car does sound a whole lot better AWOT with short tails and I prefer the loudness, people notice you when you are on their back and let you by.

i currently run an FI system with 18" resonated exhaust and Z1 resonated test pipes
I ran at NCM Motorsports, that had sound at 103db and did not have any problems.

I also picked up some CC Inserts for street or track at the store there, they are Designed to meet race track sound requirements, I have not tired them yet. Got them because at some point I am going to get in trouble....
Since sound is becoming an increasing problem.

I tried some CC inserts with poor results. While quieter, the exhaust temp went way up, coolant temp went up, and power went way down.

Finally, one fell out due to high vibration and was nearly run over by another car.

Be advised..

Wow, that's a little scary. I would not want to be following someone's line and plow over an exhaust component. Was it just the insert or one of the full pieces like the flanged turndowns?

Awesome thank you for sharing. Yeah loudness does catch lots of attensions but I am really over that. Even with wearing earplugs I am really getting tired of it.

AAM short tails looks like a very simple solution! Cutout will definitely help on the street.

Glad to know one more Z track junkies in local! :tup:Which track/event group do you normally go?

Thanks for sharing! I am actually thinking on FI exhaust but what's the difference between resonated and non-res? Not sure tomei test pipe + FI res/non-res would be an ideal setup for both power and sound

True! Don't use tomei silencer when you are going above 4000 rpm

I got the full FI exhaust. LTH's, 12" resonators, and cbe.

It was an insert that I literally had to hammer into place, and then riveted!

I was shocked it came out. The vibration forced the rivets to fail, then the insert shook out. I used 4 alum rivets, steel rivets would have been much better.

I use motorsport cats (100-cell) with lightweight stainless pipes on PPE LT headers with a pair of Spintech mufflers - https://spintechmufflers.com/

I have v-band fittings to install spiral flow resonators for noise sensitive tracks that go under car around where the seats are located - it takes 5 minutes on my hoist to swap out the straight pipe and install these resonators to quieten down the car.

I use an Australian manufactured unit but in the USA you are probably better looking at Moroso.

I typically run with NASA Northeast at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville NJ. I am going to be there Nov. 6th on Thunderbolt.

I'm in North Jersey by Hoboken.

I have FI SS TDX with 12" res + MD LTH with helm res. I enjoy, and got a lot of compliments about how it sounds, and it isn't noisy at all, just music to my ears :yum:

Edit: there is also new Greddy single exhaust, it should be quieter than tomei.

Cool! I am in central jersey near freehold. Mostly run with PCA because of price but they are getting crowded with cars! Plan to try Chin next year and NASA is on my list also.
