Ride Height, Tire size, Spring Discussion

Hey guys,

I was gonna start a thread on the track z/g FB page but figured I'd try here first. Looking for opinions/experience on my next wheel/ tire setup. In the past I have run a staggered setup of 18x10/12 with 275/35 and 305/35 nitto nt01's. i am looking to switch to 10.5 square setup along with possibly a different tire brand/ model. I have heard decent things about RE71's, maxxis rc1, r888r's, and bfg rivals. i would like to stay around the 275 or 285 section width but the overall size and weight of the tires range from like 27-31lbs and 24.8-26.7in.

I guess my questions are what tire size you seem to like the best, what tire model, and any setup notes that you've noticed.

I just got some 18x10.5 wheels square delivered and plan to run 275/40 for now, with Nexen SUR4Gs.
Depending on how that feels at track days, I might go with 285/35 Hankook R-S4's next time around. Sadly, RS4s are sold out in 275/40.
I ideally wanted 295/35 but selection in that size is pretty bad :(

I am boosted so I run as much tire as I can on a square setup. I think you need to decide on what thread wear of tire you want run and what your expectations are for the track. If you are competing some formats state 200 thread wear tire and others 100. If it doesn't matter then there are numerous brands that are all pretty close in lap times but very in tire life with re71r being the worst for longevity and the best on lap times. The nt01s are my favorite as they are fast and they seem to wear better. I hear good thing about Maxxis and it looks like Nexen is going to come out with a wider tire selection soon!

You're going to need at least a +30 to a +36 offset to fit up front and fit a full width tire. It's going to rub unless you run some heavy camber.

i'm at -2.8 now. drove around with a 18x10.5 +15 rpf1 for a bit with a 275/35 nt01 and had no issues, but i do agree more offset is needed up front

I run the nt03 18x10.5 +30 square and then run a 15 mm spacer in the rear so I can rotate tires freely. I also run TE SL 18x11 +18 square and me camber is -2.8 right now.

I have a set of 275/40 RS4s that I can sell, but they're in California lol.
