wow! great Battle!

I've seen just the short end clip before... what a great battle. I don't know if I agree with the move in the end. Kind of extreme given the outcome. Bad sportsmanship.
|
Sneaky sneaky. Great race up until that point.
Thank you. |

What happened to the drivers? |

..BUT.. ...WHAT HAPPENED!?! The announcers certainly played all that down right quick. :bowrofl: |
my opinion is that it was bad sportsmanship on the part of both drivers. the porsche driver should not have pushed him into the wall, causing him to end up crashing into the opposite wall. but the corvette driver was pretty aggressive himself bumping the porsche on the last turn to take the position. (they would not have ended up side by side if it wasnt for the bump coming out of the last corner).
both drivers ended up getting on probation for the next two races. (if they're involved in anymore incidences during probation, they'll be suspended) the porsche kept the win for that race. |

Incredible driving for both drivers up until the last turn. The Vette's bump on the Porsche's rear was not a kosher move to begin with. That alone could easily have put the Porsche off the track and into a wall. The porsche then crossing the track to put the vette in the wall was probably seat-of-the-pants anger reaction.
Thanks for posting the vid. That got my blood pumping and was a great 10 minutes of time spent :)! |

Yeah, that is the most epic battle ever. I actually watched the whole thing when it was posted here last.
My first reaction was that while the Corvette was out of line, the Porsche was way out of line. But I could see how he must have felt, probably something along the lines of, "You want to play like *that*? F__K you!" I love that the Corvette made it across the finish line, even if that doesn't really matter in a GT2 finish... |
That Porsche should have let the Vette by a long time before it happened. Yes, both drivers were being aggressive, but....

From the times I've been on the track, they tell us to yield to the car behind if you know they're trying to pass. I thought these events penalized racers for blocking like that.
While I agree that it's all or nothing in that kind of professional sport, it was obvious (to me) that once the Vette passed it was pulling away and WAS the faster car. |
After watching it, as well as the other angle video, I think the corvette put himself in the wall. Sure, the Porsche drove him to the wall, but he didn't hit him....if you watch close, the Porsche gets on the brakes just as the corvette came across his front. I think the vette pulled along side him, put a fender in front and then went to reciprocate and come across the Porsche....only he saw it coming and got on the binders just as the vette came across him....allowing him to go right across the track. It does not look like the Porsche hit him....his car is even undamaged in the front. Vette tried a payback and it didn't work
|
I see what you mean, but what happened is that the Porsche did something I have never seen in a race - deliberately pushing a car to the wall *as* it's passing you. It wasn't a nudge, and he wasn't completing his line - he straight up pushed him for a long period of time. As the 'vette got past him (pretty amazing in itself), the Porsche's push became effectively a PIT maneuver, pushing the rear of the 'vette around.
The fact that these guys got as far as they did up that straight is a testament to both their driving skill. Those are some crazy maneuvers to be pulling at that speed. |
