Rep Power

Can we know why this was removed and what we can do to get it shown again? I miss seeing my 60. :icon17:

SPOHN 02-28-2013 12:49 PM

Curious also. Been gone for days.

SS_Firehawk 02-28-2013 03:08 PM

idk how those little green pellets work. I had 4 rep power but like 20 or so reps? Confusing. Then on the top it was I have 189 points.

Trips 02-28-2013 10:51 PM

Interesting, I just noticed this also :ugh2:

GaleForce 02-28-2013 10:58 PM

Notice wat?

Jordo! 03-01-2013 01:15 AM

More green dots = more hulk strength.

Jasonle 03-01-2013 03:59 AM

SPOHN 03-01-2013 07:12 AM

Woot

shadoquad 03-01-2013 04:15 PM

Surprised anyone cares. Rep power is proportional to post count.

:-/

Not entirely.

Oh yeah?

Well here's my follow up questions... Where do they differ, and who gives a crap anyway? With the back alley rep whoring on this site, it's not as if that number bears any true meaning. Especially now that likes exist.

Waiz 03-01-2013 04:55 PM

I blame Frost :icon17:

From what I have seen over the last 20 years or so, rating systems with a large number of voters seldom, if ever, work well. No matter how sophisticated the algorithm is, everything deteriorates over time. If someone/group doesn't figure out how to game the system, a small group of well-meaning, enthusiastic voters will skew everything. Accounting for strings of very high or very low votes is difficult (is someone really good/bad or are ppl stuffing the ballot box).

The "best" ratings systems seem to be the most simple ones. 1-5 (maybe 1-10) "stars". No rating displayed until x number of votes. Flags raised when lots of 1/max votes.
Edit: Showing number of votes helps a lot.

It might be better to weight the voters. ;)

Since you asked,

1. Look for two members who have near identical post count and check the rep (hard to do now)
2. You're absolutely right. Some people care other don't. I blame Obama

But the numbers are either identical or incredibly close.

It's not worth wasting any more effort arguing over something this incredibly moronic.

AK370Z 03-02-2013 12:24 PM

Hello
Yes I have turned off the REP system temporarily. I'm working on something. Once it's done, I'll turn the rep system back on. Sorry for not giving heads up.

Thanks

SPOHN 03-02-2013 12:31 PM

Hey, it's AK.

KaienZ34 03-04-2013 05:13 PM

I always say, reps are better than likes any day.

AK370Z 03-04-2013 07:22 PM

People need to realize the difference between giving someone "rep" and "like". I'll briefly explain below. They are def. not the same. Since the Like system been initiated, I still give rep point when I'm suppose to:

REP Point: Rep point should be given when you see a great post. When someone has asked a question and an individual member took the time to answer that question, he deserve a rep point. Thank them for their post. When you've asked a specific question like "what's the torque ft/lbs for ____?" or "what are the steps to remove the front bumper or intakes" and someone takes the time to answer it for you (and writes down the steps), don't just throw them a like. You take the time to encourage the positive post/reply and write a small "thank you sentence" by giving them a rep point. Just use your senses. It doesn't even have to be something that YOU have asked. It doesn't matter who asked a question. It can be any post. If you feel that someone posted a great reply and if you feel that IT SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED, give them a positive rep point. That should be their encouragement.

LIKE: As I have mentioned before , "like" system should be used to pin point the "most helpful" reply(s) (as rep system can NOT do this). So basically leave a rep point to "encourage the poster" for a certain post and then LIKE that post so that someone else coming into the thread can INSTANTLY pin point the most useful/helpful post. If you stumble upon a thread "how do I fix my windows are stereo install?", the post explaining the procedure should have both rep and like. Like system is here to distinguish helpful post(s) in a 10 page thread discussing "which wheel lock is compatible with 370z's unique lugnuts?". It makes your life easier. But you can also randomly use the like system in picture threads or premium section etc. I'm not going to penalize you if you do not 100% follow it. But in the "Tech" and "General" section, please try to use it so that it benefits other members here.

:tiphat: happy forum browsing

diddy535 03-04-2013 08:52 PM

Soo...

rep = solid user

like = solid post
