Is it fixable? It's annoying as hell...

I thought I had a virus on my computer until I started doing more research, and it seems that this only occurs on forums, not regular websites. I'm not an expert at this, but it sounds like the forums were contaminated with a redirect code, sort of like a virus.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible that our forum has been compromised? It's also doing it on my iPhone as well, so it's not something g with my computer. As far as I can remember its only with links to the forum, not Facebook or Break or any of the other sites I usually go to. Anyone else? Am I crazy?

...don't answer that.

It only happens on my Windows machines. My Apple machines work fine. BTW, it never happens if you use Bing intsead of Google. FYI

sparky 07-09-2012 10:25 PM

I got that too the last few weeks and I don't like it one bit.
Search on here returns too many results, search on google or bing gets a redirect.
WTF?

You can do a google site search under Search -> Advanced Search. You'll see a lightly colored google search bar on the page.

cptspeed 07-10-2012 08:31 AM

my apple gets the same redirect. FYI

Huck 07-10-2012 01:27 PM

Maybe this is something the mods need to look into. It doesn't sound very "dangerous" as far as a virus or something, but it IS annoying.

370Z Forum Link Redirecting and lockup computer

Anyone else have this problem, when I clean up the cookies and tracking data on my pc and then type in 370z forum links from a google search and pick one of them, my pc is redirected to some BS adverstizing link call 123direct or some site that makes you close out internet explorer or restart the computer.

Note this only happens at the 370z forum no other forum, if the forum administrators are doing something that causes this problem, then it should be corrected ASAP

gsxr750 07-12-2012 03:09 PM

Here is a link to the BS sight yo keep getting redirected to URL123.INFO - free url redirection and masking service

cdoxp800 07-12-2012 03:14 PM

Yes.. I get it at random..

Trips 07-12-2012 03:28 PM

Its been discussed in another threads and it's a google issue not this site.

Annoying as HELL I agree but this mostly happens on the first attempt to get to this site via goggle.

I will let AK know anyways

It is actually a site issue, not a google issue. The forum is running a search engine optimization plugin that has been compromised.
Ak needs to work through:

FAQ's on the Rogue Plugins Exploit (1/23 vBSEO Patch Release) - vBulletin SEO Forums
Easy Security Tips for vBSEO customers - vBulletin SEO Forums

Or re-install the SEO plugin.

Just waiting on him to actually have time.

Thanks Dan for the clarification and I stand corrected

I've let AK know so he can address it.

AK's been pretty busy lately so I ask those annoyed to please be patient

adampetrasek 07-18-2012 12:13 PM

I've been getting this problem very consistently on my work's mac clicking links from google reader. Very annoying!!!

dmhenderson 07-18-2012 06:49 PM

Confirming that this has happened on both my work machine and my home machine. I installed malwarebytes and S&D and neither picked anything up. It's super annoying because you have to close your browser to get out of the "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE THIS GAY WEBPAGE LOL" cycle and can't use your back arrow.

Davey 07-18-2012 07:09 PM

This happens to me on my work computer (Firefox) but I don't recall seeing it at home where I use Chrome mainly.

And yes, I think it is when I search specifically for the370z.com using advanced search on google.com and click a result.

Like if you put "site:the370z.com 2013 370z" (without quotes) in google search to restrict results to this site like I do from work a lot, where I'm not logged into the site anyway.

ChrisSlicks 07-19-2012 01:37 PM

I've looked into this, and the most likely culprit is an old buggy version of vBSEO, which is an analytics plug-in for vBulletin which this site runs on.

AK needs to update vBSEO to the latest version (and possibly the entire vBulletin install) in order to correct this.

The problem is only on clicking links from google searches that I'm aware of since they use a linkback URL syntax. It will happen once or twice or a few times in a row and then it will eventually cure itself.

chops 07-20-2012 04:27 PM

yea this is some sort of malware. someone needs to run some virus scan's and update the server quick!

I agree with you completely except for the last part, from my research it sounds like the redirect code is designed to only happen so often i.e. not every time you go to the site. I believe AK needs to remove the line of code and then update, but I could be wrong on that. The links I provided earlier explain everything better than I could.

I believe it has something to do with caching. Once correctly resolved I never see it again for the rest of the browsing session. You never get it visiting the site directly, only on a google search.

Huck 07-21-2012 06:19 PM

Agreed. I'm not an expert in this so I'll defer to you in this :)

It's a common google redirect. Does occur occasionally with forum links. The most accurate conjecture is that it's malware which hasn't really been recognized by your antivirus yet. I have a laptop given to me by the university, which has a very poor antivirus system intended to protect the network before the computer. Installed ESET and force removed the antivirus system, and now, it never happens anymore.

Still going on. I don't want to catch something from going to this forum. I would hope to see the redirect removed...

You've had worse, nothing a little penicillan can't fix

Huck 07-22-2012 07:25 AM

Once you've had the Shado 'erps, you won't even care about a computer virus.

But just to make this clear, it doesn't seem like a virus that infects your computer. It's solely on the forum and won't do any damage to your computer. You're safe. It's just annoying.

DarkJak 07-22-2012 10:29 AM

Glad this is getting looked into. It doesn't happen to me much, maybe just 1/5 of the time, but it's still annoying.

DIGItonium 07-26-2012 02:31 PM

No wonder... I saw the exact same thing early this week. I was searching for the AAM oil cooler and clicked on this forum post from Google. I barely got to this site when it got redirected to some other site. A pop up dialog asks me to visit their sponsors or whatever when leaving the site. I had to manually kill the browser to get out of the mess.

DIGItonium 07-26-2012 02:35 PM

Ah this is the bug... clicking back doesn't help. It pops up a messagebox asking the user to visit the site's sponsors, and it prevents the user from getting focus on the browser. I ended up killing the browser from the task manager.

BTW, at work... the firewall blocks the URL site and categorizing it as "scam, spam, illegal, etc."

I can't even go on this site from my home computer do to all these prompts that indicate it’s a threat for viruses. It allows me to visit here and there on my work computer without redirecting me to a different URL. I think it has to do with there is no security. Anybody that isn’t a member can browse. All other car sites that I have been on require membership to browse.

Just visit the site by using a link saved to favorites and you won't have any issues. Copy the following link and save to favorites:

http://www.the370z.com

The issue only happens when you type the name into google.

Cmike2780 07-26-2012 03:03 PM

I get this too. Annoying, but easily worked around if you bookmark the site.

That's a good point for us members, ChrisSlicks, and I do use a bookmarked URL to get here myself. But when you are searching for stuff ON the370z.com from google it will still happen.

It happens to me on my work computer as I said. I don't actually log into the site on that computer.

Now, what is more important is if I am just "some guy" looking for info on the 370z and I google it and one of the results is from this site, which of course is the awesomest 370z site on the interwebs, when I click on it it takes me to this pretty princess something or other site crap. That's not good, I'm sure you will agree.

Cuban Z 07-26-2012 06:42 PM

Happens to me when I link in from a Google result on my ICS Android.

djtodd 07-27-2012 10:12 PM

Same. Both using chrome and safari from google links. Happen randomly.
