Bump posts

..... is there anything to keep the blood thirsty vendors from poping up on the new post feed. its annoying to read past 324 BUY HERE PAY HERE threads

m4a1mustang 09-30-2011 09:10 AM

It's annoying but they pay the bills for the site, so you just have to sift through them.

ScGRaceR 09-30-2011 09:26 AM

If you notice, Z1 tries desperately NOT to use this tactic. I have attempted to police our staff here to make sure any thread "Bumps" are done so with useful information, responses to questions or product updates.

Other tags or statements similar to "Bump" or "PM sent" that are used repeatedly by forum sponsors are annoying even for us. These useless thread tricks bury our own forum threads which we attempt to fill with useful information or responses to our customer's inquiries.

I have noticed that you guys tend to be a lot more informative than most. Much appreciated.

Totally agree as well.. we don't subscribe to that tactic, it just makes the "active topics" useless.

I do agree valid specials and promotions should be allowed within the appropriate categories, it does get some people thinking about products rather than hiding them deep into a vendor specific thread, but some vendors do seem to take advantage.

I've seen other sites limit "sale" threads to 3 or 4 per vendor, or per category, and that seems to help too. A vendor can simply delete (soft delete) their sale thread and create another for the newest hottest thread.

AK, any thoughts on getting some rules together now that this bad boy is so popular? :)

I'm with you guys...I will bump a thread ever now and then...but try my best not to be annoying about it. I've seen other vendors here bumping 10 threads at a time multiple times per day.

I'm all for rules in the vendor section about limiting it! Let's handle this!

Other forums like TwinTurbo.net (Z32 forum) and My350Z.com has similar rules in place that must be adheared to. After a few warnings, penalties do take place.

I think it would be also worthwhile for Vendor threads to automatically delete or be removed after 90 days, etc (or some other pre-determined time). This will prevent customers from digging up old sales and causing confusion. It will also keep vendors posting new and fresh products in the vendor areas.

The long term product threads that are "Bumped" can then be directed and hidden in each company's own thread page, not directly affecting the rest of the community.
