Rep Power... Huh?

So how exactly does that "rep power" meter thing work under everyone's avatar anyway? It makes no sense.

Apparently, the amount of lit green boxes vs the number (points) don't correlate with one another, nor do either of those correlate to how long someone has been a member or the amount of posts that member has.

Like with me, half of the green boxes are lit, only have 11 rep points (I guess that's what they're called), even though I've been here for over a couple years and have almost 800 posts.

Yet there's people that have only been here a few months to a year, only have 20-50 posts, have no green boxes lit or all of them lit, and well over 300 rep points.

I don't care either way honestly. I was just curious about it.

As-far-as I know, every post can get a "rep" by more than one member. Let's say that you posted something that was a benefit to others, they can in turn give you a "rep". The more "reps" you get from others makes the meter go up. It is not based on the actual number of posts, but by how many people like what you have to say.

So, a person can have low posts, but still have a lot of rep points and vise versa, one can have a ton of posts, but low rep points.

There are others who may chime in to clarify if I am not explaining it correctly.

You can check your User CP to see who has given you a "rep". I just did for your question...and your rep points went from 11 to 26 (you're welcome :))

Rep=reputation. The idea is that people can rep you for knowledgeable or helpful posts. You can leave a message when you rep, and you can read the messages left for you on your User Control Panel page as mults mentioned.

Some people abuse the system and rep daily between themselves. I wouldn't know anything about that  Just don't rep stupid people. The worst is when some idiot starts a ridiculous thread and seeing that they somehow have rep points :shakes head:

I know the points don't matter. I was just curious why they are all over the place and the numbers and amount of lit green boxes never correlate to each other. It's sorta screwy.

I have never noticed that there were members abusing the rep system

To be honest it's been soooooooo loooooong I've forgotten how Ak setup the rep point system.

I know it has different values it looks at before awarding a member rep points.

I explained to a member awhile back while it was still fresh in my mind how the rep system worked.

I'll try to see If I can find something that may shed some light on it :ugh2:

The number of rep points you receive are directly related to the number of rep points the person giving them has. People with more rep points give more points when they rep. People with fewer rep points give fewer points when they rep. My reps are worth over 1000 rep points now lol

Because of my measly rep power, my rep to you only added 4. I feel like such a loser. :rofl2:
