People trying to register and not getting approved

Recently, well over the past couple years but more often lately. I've seen people on 370z FB pages talking about trying to register on here and it taking 2-4 weeks or even never getting accepted to post of view things on this site.

I dont know if theres any way to change that but theres quite a few 370z owners and enthusiasts that want to join here and cant.

I've been a member of here for a very long time so I never really pay attention. Also, I dont remember there needing to be an approval process to become a member. I cant imagine checking pending approvals for members taking more than 5 minutes a day, like checking emails.

Only reason I even mention this is because this site feels a bit dead, I think open registration would be a smart move if the admin in charge of approving new members cant keep up but every 2-4 weeks. Maybe get two other trusted admins that regular the site to have the power to approve as well.

AK has to approved all new memberships (base and Premium). He's a busy guy and doesn't visit the forum often. It's unfortunate, but that's just how it is these days. Anyone who throws a fit because they don't have enough patience to wait can just stay in the FB groups as far as I'm concerned...

It took a little over two months i think for me to get approved. By the time I did get approved, I had almost forgot about this forum. I agree that the membership process should change, lots of info we could be missing out on from those waiting for the green light.

Its not a call out but a concern and when I say "concern" its the idea that this site is somewhat dying. Its got great info that some people cant access either . One of our most trafficked parts of this site is the "new supra" post.

I understand having a busy life, most of us are adults and have careers, theres no doubt this takes a back seat. Delegating out the approval to another willing admin wouldnt be a bad idea.

In all honesty, I dont think being impatient is the issue though. Its easy to post on FB asking a question. I've seen dozens over the years ask the same question. Hell, I would have too, even now Id probably see if there was some sort of answer to why.

I agree that it would be much nicer if AK would dole out some admin privileges to others for some things.

The fact of the matter is you can browse this forum without being a member. Most questions have already been asked and answered, so there's really not a lot of need for more input except in the tech area for new innovation or feedback/data sharing.

For example, a "what oil should I use" thread was just started up by a new member last week. The age and used pricing on the 370Z is such that we don't need every 20 yr old who bought a used Z for a few thousand bucks having the ability to create threads or even comment. Just my :twocents:

I will acknowledge there are going to be a handful of people that have useful info to contribute and run into delays. Hopefully they have the patience to wait it out.

I'd admin. I'm on here every day practically, first thing I check at work..I work nights.

I get why applicants are getting upset. Shouldn't take a long time to get approved. No outlet for them to express their concern other than FB.

Some of those questions new Z owners post to FB tho...wow. It’s like the 370Z became the next Civic.
Whether or not the delay in approval has anything to do with the younger crowd, which I doubt, I would agree that it needs to be sped up. And if AK keeps those duties himself, then attend to those duties more regularly.

I understand that the approval process is slower than the Pony Express or snail mail for the young folks, But as JARblue has stated AK is the only one who has the ability to approve new members.

I know it's not an excuse , but the whole reason why it's like that is IF you guys remember a while back our forum was getting hammered by spam bots that it was driving him and myself crazy dealing with.

He then impleted a stringnant approval process so that it would help comebat that issue but in heindsight the negatives were that members would need to be approved manually.

All this was great when AK was taken care of it, but as time has gone on AK has had less and less time to deal with things on here that only he has permission to take care like approving new members.

I as those who know deal with practically everything else that I have permission to deal with.

All I can do is pass it along that members are awaiting approval.

And ask for patience while Ak finds the time to get to those requests or PM's.

I do apologize to those for the inconvenience, but at this time patience is greatly needed here.

As for finding a solution I'm still waiting to hear about even taking on more responsibilities to help or fix the issue.

I'll let AK know nonetheless.

The owner spent a lot of time and effort getting this site running and populated with members. It would be a shame to see all that go to shiat because he is too busy with other duties and unwilling to delegate some of the authority. It's one thing to send out decals late - it's a whole 'nother ballgame when users can't even sign up.

There are enough responsible people on this site to handle a lot of the work and keep an eye on things (the permissions for vBulletin are granular and you don't have to give anybody full rein on the site). Or he can let it go down the tubes. Not a difficult choice, IMNSHO.

I just finally got in after two month wait. I would periodically check the site for updates and I lost interest. There is not alot of traffic and the fact that there is such a long waiting period with no responses or notifications of any kind will kill this forum. People will still use it for the great references, but something needs to change with this in order to keep it moving forward.

Just my thoughts.

Man I can see both sides of the coin. I waited a long while to become a member but I think the wait was we'll worth it. The amount of readily answered questions can already be found in rhe search section and people still ask the same stuff over and over. The flood gates have been released and once again there are plenty new members still asking stuff that could've and should've been researched before they been invited in. I like how the site is run and doesn't have the instant freedom that the Facebook groups have. Either way welcome aboard newbies!!

The "too bad, so sad" mentality isn't the right attitude. We're all here because we share the same passion. The Z community is small as it is. It doesn't help to discourage new, fresh interest away from this site.

We need more excited members sharing their latest mods, tips, tricks, mistakes, photos, etc. I get there are new member asking the same questions, but new members also contribute and replace retired/inactive members down the line.

Best solution (in my humble opinion) is mods have their privileges increased to approve new member and see if that improves the situation. You can always reassess in a few months.

Absolutely! I agree new members and new traffic are necessary, it's just since the platform has gotten older and most of the things that could've been done have been done leave the group stagnant. There are probably a few ideas that haven't been executed yet lol. I love the forum for what it is and can't wait to see what the newest bunch have in store 👍

danegrey 10-08-2018 01:09 PM

maybe older, but there are still some of oldies that are still making changes to our Z's and keep asking questions... I sure am, as I learn what I need to do to change the car for tracking.... i don't think I will every be done... and this Z is going no place
