Are there any local shops you guys would recommend? I wouldnt mind getting a ballpark figure on the price and downtime needed. I am still waiting on my bikes to be shipped so I am currently without another form of transportation.

Depends on your preferred flavor of boost. A TT kit will probably take 25-30 hours of shop time. A Stillen kit half that. A BP single turbo is an easy DIY.

For shops, Use Kosmic or JTran. For help on DIY kinda stuff, there's a few members who are happy to help out for beer money.

Oso 03-30-2015 02:23 PM

Seeing how this is going to be my daily driver when I am not on the bike. I think i would go with a TT setup with just a moderate tune to preserve the motor. I only have 16k miles and I would like to see reach 100k one day.

I wouldnt mind going the faster route with a single but I think in the long run i will regret that I didnt go TT.

Chuck is right, Kosmic or JTran are the 2 main shops that have good history with Z & GTR (plus other platforms). If you are good with a wrench you can DIY a lot of work, but boost can be a bit much for even the best in a garage.

For modest power a SC can fit the bill & is easy to install/maintain along with not pushing the motor.
I have 400whp with a GTM stage 1 and hit 80k miles a couple months ago (was boosted at 19k miles), my rotrex unit seized up but motor is still going strong for now. Many guys are making 500-600whp with TT/T kits on stock blocks while still going strong, many have made the switch to e85 which might not be ideal for a DD but has some nice benefits and if you build it in from the start it is just bigger fuel pump & injectors with a RFS.

There's no appreciable difference between single and TT in the areas you're talking about. Plus, the single is cheaper and an easy DIY. Step one of the TT instructions is "Remove motor".

I thought step 1 of TT install was just throw money in the trash and then remove motor. :stirthepot:
Wait...that is all boost builds.

I won't touch water stuff, have had friends dive into that world and basically say whatever you think it cost add 1-2 more zeros to the end.

Yeah, car is a good balance though buying a house right now & can see the $$$ already being spent by the wife and we have yet to even sign on it!

This little threadjack has got me thinking. We need an "Grown-Up" Houston Z's meet. We leave our cars in a parking lot, sit at a bar or around a BBQ and bitch about things like that.

No bubble tea bs, stanced 350s or other crap. Just booze and venting.

There are a few that occur, but not weekly.

I haven't seen those. The only ones I seem to see are a little more "import car scene" than I'm looking for. Everybody is out looking under the hoods of each other's cars, I'll be inside having another drink.

Oso 03-30-2015 03:05 PM

I agree with the booze and some nice brawts on the grille. Better not let me come across a nice smoker.

YzGyz 03-30-2015 11:17 PM

I like this brew and meat idea. I don't care about the bitshing though. I like to enjoy myself when i'm drinking and eating animal flesh and not be bothered by the nonsense.

I say Jwicks place. He don't drink anymore so I bet by default his grilling skills has doubled! Well, Chucks place would be cool too. He has a cool car lift ride.

PS, bring on the Heferwissen!

Who said I don't drink? I gave up beer because of gluten but I just traded it for hard liquor. That being said my grill skills are on point. However; Chuck has a much better bbq pit.

YzGyz 03-31-2015 12:32 AM

My appologies good sir! lol.. I thought you went dry all the way.

I approve of this derail! Just say when guy! Just say when. If I could make it, I will.

<------ will drive for booze and food (will bring some booze)

What is the secret handshake to get approved into the Houston Z FB group? I am a new owner and it seems that my request was denied.

I tried joining it also. I guess it is a very selective group. Maybe i should change my profile photo to the car.

It helps if you have a picture of your car or something car related in your cover photo (since its publicly viewed).

Yes, if you get denied it is because we look to make sure you own a Z (try to control spam on FB).
If you get denied fro some reason, just PM myself or abm89 here your name and you are requesting to get in.

ZKraken22 04-02-2015 10:34 AM

Thanks for the assist. I will send you a message bc my user name in the forums is different from my FB.

Oso 04-02-2015 12:47 PM

Thanks for helping us out. I am pretty much inactive on facebook for the most part. Just waiting on something better to come out to replace it.

I am just excited to meet up with more Z owners in the area. I am actually going to look up places to go in houston to see before I start working.

Also remember we have a Google Calendar we keep up to date with events that are occurring. If you use google (gmail) I can add you to the shared list so you can view the calendar.

Here is the HTML page for the calendar: https://www.google.com/calendar/b/1/...merica/Chicago

Oso 04-02-2015 01:12 PM

Thanks for the calendar add. I just saw the private screening is tonight. Who do I need to talk to get on that? Is it too late?

It is too late, we had to do a pre-sale of tickets to reserve the theater and it sold out last Friday.
You might be able to go into the HZ Facebook page and see if anyone is not going who already paid & buy the ticket off of them.

Oso 04-02-2015 02:46 PM

Thanks for the update. I will wait until im approved on the group but it looks like I will most likely have to sit this one out.

Oso 04-09-2015 11:15 AM

So I found this add on craigslist.

Stage 1.5 gtm procharger kit for 370z or g37
(Description)
For sale I have a used gtm stage 1.5 supercharger kit with everything minus the injectors. The kit itself has 12k miles on it and will easily make 500hp on 8psi. This kit is for a 370z or a g37 asking 3000$ obo, this kit goes for 7000$ brand new. Any questions just shoot me a text any time

I contacted the seller and he said his friends motor threw a rod and he is selling it.

I am not sure if I am ready to gamble with a used bolt-ons like this. I dont have a technical experience for buying used FI. I think I will keep saving for a new kit with a warranty. But the price isnt bad for somebody who knows what they are doing.

theDreamer 04-09-2015 11:31 AM

No photos and missing injectors, probably will need a new fuel pump also.
Also was this on a Z or a G, the piping is completely different between the two so if was a G then expect to pay for new piping.

Honestly the SC is less of a hit to jump into, but unless you have an extra 5k just laying around to be ready for whenever something happens then pass. 3,000 is a nice buy in for a used kit, but you will need to be adding injectors, fuel pump, install, tune to the list plus any other upgrades required (oil cooler, exhaust, etc).

Have fun getting support for GTM. I heard they're out of business.

No need to go to GTM, 99% of the parts are supplied from other sources, GTM used 3rd parties to make the piping, bought rotrex parts from other distributors (I found who actually sold GTM all their rotrex parts), and the fuel is all drivers choice.

Only thing GTM really did in the end was put a few weeks into making some pipe & then sending it off to be made by another company.
