People in Houston!! I need you!

Hey guys! This isn't Z related. I just need some suggestions. My girlfriend's birthday is coming up towards the end of this month and I want to take her somewhere nice . Just looking for a good place, not too fancy, to go out for dinner and then after maybe somewhere to go get some drinks and possibly dance :happydance:. I'd really appreciate the input!!

Straits in CityCentre is quite nice, the bar area turns into a dance floor at night. Though by my recollection they're not open too late.

How much of a budget is there? And are you guys heavy wine drinkers at dinner?

ddot196 10-03-2012 02:23 PM

How old are yall? You want a club, dive, fun place to hang or just a fancy restaurant? I know spots but let us know what kinda night you're looking for.

I took my gf to a place called Poscol, little Italian place, it was legit. I let the waiter order me whatever he wanted really, the guy hooked it up with the mixed meat/cheese plate and the bread, then we both had salads and main courses. And it was legit...
I don't know what they do specifically for birthdays or whatever though... About $100~

Or you can go to Flemings, we used to go there quite often. For birthdays they do one of 3 things, give you a cake, give you their DELICIOUS chocolate lava cake desert with ice cream, OR, they give you a set (4) of decent truffle chocolates... And if you go, you can go to Costco and buy some gift cards at 20% off...
That's also going to run you about $100+
IF you DO decide to go to Flemings, reserve it under Andrew Astani, (and say you changed your number), and that you want a booth (they keep track of how many times you go, and I went a decent amount of times, and I feel they usually treat you better if you have gone a few times...

We all gotta look out for each other, and hell, I've spent good damn money there, and since I don't live there anymore, SOMEONE better use the perks! LOL

fuct 10-04-2012 02:49 PM

just like with a rim question..... we gotta know a budget!

Wilbe 10-04-2012 11:07 PM

go to city centre or market street/water way, that way you have more than one option for everything

Thanks for the responses guys! Sorry I've been inactive on the forum, been swamped at work.

As for the budget I'd say I'm willing to spend no more than like $500? lol.Not enough?

I'm 21 and she's 23. So we're of the legal drinking age

And we love dancing! :happydance:

ddot196 10-09-2012 08:42 AM

Ah very nice man. Well I'd take her to a nice restaurant first. Something different would be fogo De Chao or whatever.... Place is amazing! Since yall like dancing I'd go to a club. Uptown park is nearby. You could also just drive down Washington or into midtown. A fun night I've had a few times is going to kung fu for a bit has a nice chill vibe, play some games and drink. Then you can walk next door to Roosevelt and dance away. It's a great club.

Fogo is an OK option, but IMO since its all you can eat with the guys just coming around, it's not the same as just going to a fine steak house... (And I would stay away from the place in the Galleria, [forgot the name] but me and my bro went there, and we're both steak snobs, and it sucked, sides were GREAT, but my $90 steak could be out made by Applebee's)
Or if you go to Poscol, it's a nice small quaint place, with a warm atmosphere... And go there and order like a baller, order whatever you want, but tell the guy to bring out whatever meat/cheese sampler he wants, and order whatever he says is good, lol, just take ALL of it...

When I went I told the guy to give us the 5 meat/3 cheeses (they have one bigger) and we ordered 3 mains and something else... It was awesome... My gf went there before with her friends and she didn't enjoy it half as much because they didn't try all the crap I did...

(There is one other place I'm trying to think of, I'll update you later...)
You could also go to Reef, it's great food wise, but I don't think special enough...

Stella Sola!
Been there a few times, fuckin legit! There menus change 4 times a year, and since I haven't been there/in Houston for 3 months, their menu has for sure rotated...
The other suggestion with Stella Sola, (or anywhere) is to order the bone marrow!!! They always seem to have it on the menu, prepped a little different each time... But if you haven't eaten it... Holy Christ, it's top 5 things I have ever put in my mouth (insert :supergay: joke here) and at Stella Sola, they know how to make it really well

stella sola is now closed. was great for a good meal. if ur still looking for recommendations, try Mark's it is a great special occasion restaurant if ur looking to impress. dress nice and take ur wallet. make a reservation now if u want in. as a back up plan i would try Underbelly, same plan dress nice and make a reservation soon.

Could try the melting pot for something different and cool. As for steaks pappas steakhouse would be my top in houston. Also mi luna in rice village is cool little restaurant/salsa dance place.

wstar 10-09-2012 05:14 PM

I'd second Melting Pot on Westhiemer. It's well within your budget assuming you don't go crazy on bottles of wine/champagne, and it's a pretty romantic place. If you've been there a few times it gets kinda kitschy and cliche after a while, but for a first trip or three it's pretty awesome. Another good option would be Sambuca Jazz Cafe downtown, especially if they happen to have a good live act on the night in question. Awesome food and atmosphere there.
