New Texas Plates!

I got my new plates in the mail the other day and I was shocked to see this format:

MUCH better looking than the old colorful one! :happydance:

I'd much prefer the black plate with white lettering as being the standard.

Nice plates. What's the process of getting new plates?

Buy a new car, or wait seven years. Assuming you still have the same car/plates that long, after 7 years they give you new plates when you do your next registration renewal.

Or you can go get some custom plates, they always take money for those :)

Yea I'm kinda pissed I bought mine a month ago or so and got stuck with those crappy rainbow ones. Must had got one of the few remaining left. Fml.

kensnismo 09-27-2012 07:54 PM

or they could get bent up in the car wash or backed into at the store.

Since my car is white it blends in really well. If I had a black car I would definitely want the reverse (like you mentioned).

$7, go to your local office and get new plates.

This is incorrect information. You can get specialty plates at anytime. You just pay the pro-rated difference in new registration.

I accidentally backed up into a parking pole a couple of times. I got a new one for a fee of 4 dollars at the DMV. Lol jk

MyPlates.com - Our Plates are street legal and officially licensed by Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
I got a black one with a star and since I didn't get anything custom on it I only pay something like $40 a year for it.

$40 sounds way better to me. My registration is due next month and I hate paying the $200

Funny how in the ad on the link, they put a Z at the end of everything lol. Found it to be ironic.

alvitdk 05-22-2013 09:11 PM

That would be my guess as well. You don't notice them under normal conditions. I think they only show up in photos and/or at certain angles.

Here you guys go:

Introduced in July 2012, "The Texas Classic" is designed to provide Texans the highest public safety protection.

It is the first license plate in the country to feature two, high-visibility security threads embedded into the plate sheeting, making it easier for law enforcement to spot legitimate plates.
