2009 Men's Wimbledon Finals!

WOW!
Did anyone see that match?!
2nd Seed Roger Federer vs 6th Seed Andy Roddick an epic match indeed!
It was a 5 set match 5-7 7-6 7-6 3-6 16-14
Match lasted a little over 4 hours and 2 records were broken!

1.) Longest 5th set in Wimbledone history!
2.) Roger Federer becomes the first ever to win 15 Grand Slams!

I feel real bad for Roddick though, he's been real quiet but has been tearing people up! I see a potential come back for Roddick. I guess I'll see in flushing meadows at the US OPEN!

I watched the entire match. When Roddick was up 6-2 in the second set tie break, I thought he was going to win fairly easily. Federer won the next seven points & I was sure he would cruise the rest of the way.

I feel bad that Roddick wasn't broken until his final game & then lost. He played like a true champion-- hopefully a level of play he can sustain & possibly live up to the immense promise he's at times shown.

Realistically, he BARELY lost to the man who now holds more Grand Slam titles than anyone in history. That's pretty impressive.

All that said, I wish Nadal could've played.

Crown, will you be attending the US Open?

Yeah this match was so intense it woke me up! lol...
Roddick seemed really disappointed in himself when he received his trophy, I guess he worked real hard to get to where he is now but it should not stop it and I remember hearing him say I'll be back. I think he's more determined than ever now! Hopefully he'll show his talent at us open another court he excels on! And yeah it was a real shame when I heard Nadal got tendinities on his knee...

I didn't get to start watching until the 4th set. This was an epic match. Also:

Most games in a singles match after the introduction of the tiebreaker
Longest singles final by number of games since the introduction of the tiebreaker

I've played most of my life, but I've never attended a match (other than watching other people play in tournaments I played in).

I'd love to go to any of the majors, but I especially would like to visit Roland Garros for the French Open.

Nice did you play college tennis?
I played high school and I won the leagues and states titles.
I was ranked 4th at 2nd singles in bergen county. I'm currently training for a tournament coming up next month in my area! I think I'm going to try to play college tennis.

cow 07-06-2009 01:14 PM

No, I didn't. I quit my high school team (got in a big argument with the coach, told him to **** himself, etc. :D), & was more worried about playing soccer.

I got to college & played a little with my room mate (my neighbor growing up who had a court), but then got busy & got a job.

I've played sporadically over the past few years, but it hasn't been until recently that I've really picked it back up to where I'm playing at least three times a week. I'm just getting back to a level where I feel I'm good enough to maybe play in some tournaments. There's a pretty low key league here that I may join & see how I fair.

CrownR426 07-06-2009 01:41 PM

Do it! Tournaments are great, the more different players you play the more versatile you will become! I need to work on my serves... :shakes head:

cow 07-06-2009 01:45 PM

Me too. I separated my shoulder when I was in eighth grade & have had issues since. Some days, my serve is working & moves well, but on other days, I have to literally tap it across the net because I can't lift my arm above even with my shoulder.

I have a friend who's a physical therapist. I may ask him how I can improve my range of motion.

CrownR426 07-06-2009 03:21 PM

Wow I'm real sorry to hear about that injury...
I've seen many great players suffer because of injury and it really just sucks...
I'm sure through time your shoulder will heal but you shouldn't put much tension on it.
Maybe underhand serves?
It's so nice outside, hopefully I can play tennis!
Btw cow, do you mind showing me pictures of your z?
I noticed it was black and well I love black cars!

cow 07-06-2009 03:33 PM

I think my injury's going to be with me permanently-- it happened when I was in eighth grade, which I think was 1997. It's bothering me still. I can literally feel when it's going to rain, lol.

Check my album in my profile for pictures of my car-- I don't want to thread jack.

CrownR426 07-06-2009 03:36 PM

Damn, no surgery or anything?
That's a real serious problem that you should check up!

cow 07-06-2009 03:48 PM

I went to a doctor the day it happened, but there was no surgery done or anything. Basically, there was nothing to do other than let it heal on its own.

I think stretching better might help it.

CrownR426 07-06-2009 03:49 PM

Yes, stretch everyday!
I'm starting to get my volley touches better!
