MLB Hotstove

now that the world series is over teams only have five days to sign their freeagents or risk losing them to other teams. This was shortened from the 15 days through the collective bargining agreement. Below is a list of potential Free Agents for 2011 either through contracts expiring or six years allowing them to declear free agency. So I'm hoping this thread to becomea discussion of baseball's offseason season.

Lance Berkman, Nick Johnson, Chad Gaudin & Kerry Wood are gone. Hope the Yankees can keep Andy Petite, Mariano Rivera, Jeter, get a good DH/1st Baseman and sign some good pitching prospects. I think NYY are keeping Austin Kearns and Marcus Thames.

On a side note they need to get rid off AJ and Vazquez in the offseason.

I think the Yankees will try to sign Paul Konerko or Carlos Peņa. :dunno:

Good luck getting Jeter, suckas. You can have Vasquez and Nick Johnson, though :tiphat:

Anything can happen, however I don't see Jeter playing for anyone else. I would said Jeter has two or three more yrs if so of playing because his offesive number are showing that, but his defense is still there.

Nick Johnson is gone! Read the news. :tiphat:

Red Sox took the option on Papi. Good deal if he just matches this years stats. The Sox still need a HR threat behind Ortiz to get him better pitches.

PapoZalsa 11-04-2010 09:14 PM

Looks like Tampa Bay and the NYM are going to have almost brand new teams.

Lemers 12-10-2010 01:13 PM

WOW!!! The Red Sox traded for Adrian Gonzalez a power hitting 1B and turned around and signed Carl Crawford from TB. Looks like Boston is making a statement to the rest of the East.

Sucka, Jeter and Mariano are staying. Vazquez and Nick Johnson are gone. Now AJ needs to go. We need an outfielder and pitchers. I don't think trying to get Lee is a godd idea, look at freaking AJ, he have done $hit in the past two yrs.

Making a trade and signing one middle career player isn't anything like signing half a billion dollars in contracts in 1 off season.

Cliff lee gave The Yankees and their huge contract the bird and went back to the Phillies.

Not only did they offer less money and years but The Philles traded Lee away. You would think that he wouldn't even consider the team tha got ride of him.

So heres to Cliff Lee for showing every pro athlete that money isn't everything.

If you read the News he did that because he felt it was the best for him and hs family. Anyway I didn't agree with Lee going to the Yankees when they need a lot more than a pitcher with a good playoff history that felt of the Cliff this season. :roflpuke2:

Because he does not impress anyone during the regular season!

PapoZalsa 12-15-2010 06:59 PM

The Yankees are doing terrible deals. Why we need a wash out Mark Prior for a Minor League contract and Martin Rusell from the Dodgers for catcher?

With this list of catchers out there:

Boston already did two good deals and the Filis are set up at least in pitching.

I don't know what the hell the Yankees management is doing during the off season but they have yet to land a good deal, I see them going downhill in the off season.

Lemers 12-15-2010 07:25 PM

I Believe Boston has improved their team and changed the AL East. It should be NY and Boston fighting it out for 1st and 2nd. TB lost 2 key players (1 to Boston) so they shouldn't be as strong. Although I'm excited about the deals that boston has made so far I know that if they are plagued by the same season ending injuries again next year they will still be in third place.

I don't see the NYY placing in the playoffs unless they get some good pitching and land some good deals. Even that I'm a Yankee fan I think that Boston if it has a healty team will win the AL East. I would not count TB out yet or Baltimore which played very good at the end of the season.
