I heard the showing at holly springs went really well. My car should be fixed next week so I'll definitely be going to the next one.

Has anyone here used Word of Mouth Detailing, across from Extreme Auto a little west of Germantown Parkway and Stage? I went by there the other day, just on a whim and after reading a positive review on another auto forum a while back. They quoted me $325 for a complete exterior clean. Talking clay bar, wash, wax, polish, buff, shine, etc; the whole deal. Landon, you've seen my car so you know that even freshly cleaned it needs some work. A year outside with no cover is starting to take it's toll...and to be honest...it seems like a good deal to me. Quoted me an additional $170 for a full-window re-tinting, but I'm still debating on that one. Seems a bit cheap, when people at Tennessee Tint get charged twice that, but then...I've heard they are way overpriced anyway. $325 or $350, one of the two prices (I forget which) and 10 hours.

Thoughts?

Joe at Word of mouth is the best around for car detailing by far, you will not be disappointed. 170 is a normal price, Tennessee tint is a great place but is extremely high. I paid 175 for mine with a lifetime warranty. I had mine done at snappy windshield repair in Southaven, the owners son has been tinting windows there for years. Call snappy and ask for Doug jr. He'll take 1-3 hours depending on his schedule.

hmm let me know how it turns out

Yeah, I was thinking I'd go somewhere else for the re-tinting. WoM wanted to just put another layer over the existing 35% the car came with, but I was thinking that would make it way, way too dark. I don't mind if they have to have my car for a few hours; I've got another I can drive. I don't mind if they charge a bit for it, if the work is quality. If you can come up with that number, I don't mind driving to Southaven for a good price and quality work.

Thanks!

And Landon, go by there yourself and check it out. I've heard great things about them, and from what I could see in their shop they work on all makes and models. If the work he does lives up to the reputation I've heard, I'll probably make it an annual or bi-annual trip, for that price. I'm sure he can do wonders with your car as well.

662-393-0906, Ask for doug jr. If you needing tint replaced make sure you tell him you need the old tint taken off or just take it off yourself. Ammonia and a razor blade will do the trick. He put 5% all around on my car and a strip across the front.....

Damn that looks beautiful, mate. As much as I've love to go that dark (and on my black I'm sure it would look downright wicked) I'd be paranoid to go anywhere in Memphis, much less out of state. I can talk my way out of a lot of stuff by virtue of where I work, and I'd even consider going as low as 20%, but limo tint is pushing my luck, I think. Do you get stopped often?

Big J 08-10-2010 08:57 AM

I have always had 5% on my cars and have never gotten pulled over or a ticket for tint. But I also got an exemption from my eye doctor a few weeks ago for window tint, so now I'm free and clear to put whatever tint I want on the car. I did that bc desoto county had been cracking down so now I'm safe.

Pheonix 08-10-2010 09:59 AM

Ah...something to consider, lol.

Big J 08-10-2010 10:13 AM

The funny thing is I was going in my my yearly eye exam and was going to ask for the letter. I ended up being a sissy and decided I wasn't going to ask and then the doctor brought up the sensative to light subject so I went for it lol. I think 15%-20% is a good all around number though, which is still technically illegal.

Big J 08-10-2010 10:15 AM

Front windshield strip.....

Whats the area beneath it....35%, or blank, but just appears tinted because of the 5% everywhere else?

Also, I love the deep blue on the car...I don't know how you brought out that particular hue of the MB, but it looks gorgeous.

370zproject 08-10-2010 11:37 AM

i think its just the angle.. or cammera.. it does look good tho

Big J 08-10-2010 11:37 AM

It's just a strip and no tint, I'm thinking about doing the entire thing though.

I took that pic with a sprint evo 4g and it came out like that. That phone sucked IMO so I picked up an iPhone 4.
