Mine is 2009 and is due in 2015.

This is correct and has a lot to do with the NAAQS (federal air quality standards). It isn't at all about getting more money out of people. I know that's what some want to believe, and in a way it is related to money (highway dollars and other forms of federal $), but not the way some think. On some environmental things, CA is stricter than federal standards and that is a matter of choice.

Young people probably don't remember LA air quality through the 80's. Since it isn't terrible anymore, then smog testing must just be for the money..

If people want to know what LA used to be like, they should visit Beijing in summer now.

born in 1983 myself and hell yes i remember LA air quality back then all the way through till the beginning of the 90's, used to always hear reports on the news of how the smog was causing alot of cases of asthma and cancer and all that crap, the way it is now you dont hear many of those reports anymore like you used to.

if carb really cared about air quality, they would just require a tail pipe inspection and check engine light check, no visual inspections

who really gives a rats *** what's under the hood if its not polluting

honestly they are chasing around the 1% who mod cars when they should really go after the 99% of people who daily drive their old *** beater car that pollutes more than any modern era car would

I say what the hell's the difference when we have all these cars driving around San Diego with Mexico plates. Seriously. I think my Z with LTH still pollutes less, and is probably quieter than those POS's.

UPDATE:
Apparently SMOG shop owners are fighting this new law, because it is so easy to get certified and smog cars(since its just a code scan) that anyone could do it(a forum member here could get certified and "pass" people at meets if they don't have any CELs) and it would put them out of business.

I don't know how true this is but I read it off an M3 forum, and thought I should spread the news.
