Solo Autocross Event April 30th

Hey there,

I wanted to post this up as I just registered for the SCCA Socal Solo 2 event on April 30th at El Toro Airfield. It is $70 to register and that includes free food and the ability to run your car on Saturday and Sunday.

I figured I would post this up to see if any of you might be interested in registering and having a fun day or two auto-crossing it up!

Sound like fun. What are the requirements to attend?

Waiz 03-30-2011 07:45 PM

This looks cool, too bad it's the same weekend as our Vegas trip.

Please take pics and give us a full wrapup!

No requirements other than to register and show up, you do need a Snell 2000 rated helmet or newer but they generally have some loaners at the event. I'm not sure I would use those!

The cars themselves do not need any modification to attend.

You're the 2nd person to reference Vegas. If you don't mind me asking.

Waiz 05-02-2011 07:15 PM

How was this Christian?

christian370z 05-03-2011 12:11 AM

Funny you should ask haha, I actually never ran. When I got there, the Santa Ana winds were already steadily blowing at 40+mph and there were 70mph gusts which was blowing away the timing equipment, trailers, porto-poties, and people. That was at 7:30am and it kept getting worse and worse so they delayed the start until noon and since I was in the purple group, I would have to stay until 7-8pm which I couldn't do and the wind was supposed to peak between 12 and 3pm. I opted out and took a credit so I can sign up for the next event, it just wasn't worth getting the car sand and rock blasted or trying to drive at the limit in 80mph winds haha.

On the plus side, it might be a good thing it was postponed because I would have had my butt handed to me since it was a test 'n' tune for all the guys who are competing in the SCCA Championship coming up. I was the only person there without slicks and a roll cage. :rofl2:

Yeah good call, the wind was pretty gnarly all weekend.

Any idea when the next event is?

christian370z 05-03-2011 11:57 AM

The next one at El Toro is in June but I won't be in the country until July 1st unfortunately and the rest of the events listed are in Fontana and beyond which are too far for my liking so not sure to be honest. How was the drive back from Vegas?

Waiz 05-03-2011 03:02 PM

Ok cool I will keep an eye out for the next event.

I left Vegas around 10:30am so I didn't hit nearly any traffic at all, I've done that drive plenty of times but that was the first time I took my Z ;)
