max i hit i would say 240 but it didnt stay on that too long
i would say most of the drive i was 220-230 switching between 3rd and 4th gear

drive theru the canyons was maybe about 3 hrs or so with some smoke breaks in between lol

if i remember correctly trips said he hit 190 with his oil cooler(dunno what gear) and andy said he hit 220 with an oil cooler riding on 3rd most of the time

that's pretty surprising, I do 2 minutes of spirited driving on some twisty roads between 2nd and 3rd around here and my oil temp is at 230 in a blink of an eye. So I was thinking a 3hr canyon run it should be at 250-260 easy but I guess not? Maybe I'll just give it a try with you guys next time. :ugh2:

Dude i just came across this. When are ya'll goin again? I wanna roll!!!! i'm gonna have to really use higher gears since i can make my car hit limp mode quickly if i really wanted to have some fun.

Hmm missed another one. Was out of town for a few weeks....actually wanted to do a run before I left, but didn't have time.

BTW, I feel I keep a good pace through the canyons, but am definitely not at 90%....definitely not slow either though.

Oh and should start a new thread next time, might attract a few more people.

hubbleTD19 09-08-2010 04:27 AM

hey. im looking to join the next run. any ideas when it'll be? or if anyone wants to do a small run sometime. just as a warm-up, maybe get a little practice before getting behind in a 3hr run.

Derek

Hey Marco :hello: Nice to see you again.

I'm working sat's for now and sundays my rest day so I'll be out for a while and I'm running on pretty bald tires on the rears.

Hopefully I'll get some new threads soon and will get together with who ever else is interested

tru_Asiatik 05-26-2012 12:47 PM

Wow 1 yr, How many mile are you driving? if only one is wearing prematurely you may have something out of wack

tru_Asiatik 05-26-2012 01:03 PM

yeah could be a lot of things, wear is pretty even on both sides(a tad bit on passenger side) but mostly insde coz of my negative camber
i dunno ill live with it for now lol

Tru your mods look like they're overpowering your stock sized tires unless you've somehow got 265's/305's. Assuming you have enough tire the right tire pressure is critical to not burning thru them in a year. What are you running? Hotchkis sways up front are possibly too stiff for street, and the car cant lean onto the tires for traction so you have to run too much camber.

I was big on canyons after one run with Trips and Christian but after that they stopped going and nobody wanted to get up early enough to avoid traffic so I gave up. Turns out it's slightly deadly too, what with zero room for error although you do have options -option one being CANYON and option two being CANYON WALL. Option 3 could be head-on or t-bone with mom and dad taking junior to church, or a downhill skateboarder. I have a kid that needs me to come home after a fun drive, so calling home to say I'll be late from jail, the body shop, or from the bottom of a canyon is not an option anymore.

So those of us who, like you, modded our Z's to track specs and have the balls to DRIVE the beast we created go to the track about once a month. Turns out there are several extremely inexpensive managed track day options in Southern CA that everybody in the nation is jealous of. Hundred, hundred ten bucks max. All inclusive. The rest of the track guys pay upwards of $300, drive for days, hotels, trailers, so tedious.. We compete in sponsored events, win oil changes, parts at cost. Nobody dies. Nobody messes up their precious Z. I put two wheels off track ONCE in 4 visits.

There a a bunch of cool events coming up, and your profile lists you as a Track Member.... PM me if you want to know more. Maybe we'll "Z" you there!

heeheehee, my stock tires are going out pretty soon due to 7 Auto-X events and 3 canyon runs.

But wear is all around even. I like going all out stock, makes you find ways to go fast and trains you to be more sensitive to our the car behaves.

martin82 05-30-2012 04:16 PM

If you haven't hit the tracks yet except for auto-x only, u'll enjoy bigwillow/buttonwillow etc. We need to convert more people into meeting at the track..................................
