Anyone in SOcal or SGV with a Stillen SC'ed Z I can take a ride in?
I'm thinking of getting the Stillen SC kit and was wondering if there were any around (7AT would be even better) for me to sit in and see how it feels?
seconded!
I'd also be interested in this.
doesn't seem like anyone wants to give us a ride. Looks like I might have to be the ride giver if I go for it.
I would be much obliged! Haha.
I struggle with understanding if SC is worth it or to save for TT. Please do let me know if you ever do. |
I'm in the same boat. Tempted to do SC< but am afraid I will regret not going TT. Not sure which potential regret is worse, spending $$$ on SC then wishing for TT or spending $$$$$ on TT then not being what I imagined and regretting spending all that money. I'm trying to wait to get a ride in a TT to see if it totally blows my mind in order to blow open the locks on my wallet too, haha.

Your car looks like plenty of fun with 310/263. Does that 4.08 gear make any difference in your highway driving/DD? But yes, be a trail blazer! The only thing that worries me about TT is driveshaft shock or whatever that is. As far as my Z is concerned on power, I'd be perfectly happy with ~430whp/330tq, if that is even possible with the Stillen setup. I hear level10 transmission is sort of a necessity as far as TT is concerned.
My concern with TT is that everyone tells me you need to always check things regularly and I don't know much about this stuff and want a reliable car that I don't always have to be worried about. Our transmission definitely will not hold, but FI is almost done with an upgrade kit. As for the Stillen kit, you're not getting 430/330 without some upgrades who a lot of people say make it iffy. It seems the kit is only reliable stock with would be about 400-410whp, 300wtrq (which is about the most our trannys can handle stock.

Its not just a Tt that requires a close eye on things. Both sc and tt require maintenance and upkeep beyond a na car. |
Is checking up on things on the TT car relatively if someone shows me what to look out for? Pope the bumper off and check hoses and connectors?
Those things are required on a sc car as well. Plus you have to deal with sc fluid changes, belt issues, etc. they are both about the same in extra maintenance. It's just different maintenance.
Is it easy to check up on things though? Is it just a matter of popping off the bumper and inspecting hoses/connectors?
Or getting under the car. You need to know what everything does so you can tell if things look right. Order the two books I recommended in the other thread where you were asking about this. Just checking things does absolutely zero good if you don't know what's going on.

Go TT. I'm supercharged and wish I went twin turbo. After a while, you get used to the power and want more, which isn't easily doable with a supercharger. That, and it sucks being surrounded by cars like 1100-1600 hp GTRs and Tesla P85Ds all day long at work.
Oh and for reference, I'm not Stillen supercharged. Not GTM supercharged either. Or else I would have easily offered rides to everyone interested.
What kind is sc do you have? If the power delivery is similar to stillen, it could still be informative.
I have a custom HKS supercharger setup. I don't think the power delivery is similar, but if you want, I can still give you a ride to see how you like it. That is, when the weather gets better around here.
I need to fix the tune, but I'm currently sitting somewhere around 365whp/345tq at like 4psi LOL. I'm running less boost than almost every other supercharged setup out there, but I have more torque than a lot of them. Hope this helps? It's not quite comparing apples to apples, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask away! |
What kind of blower unit do you have?
Hks gts7040. I could have gone with a bigger unit like a 8550 or a 8555, but I don't plan on sticking with just one supercharger for long. ;)
why don't you give STILLEN a call? they have a red s/c'd 370z demo car.
