Exhaust Install

Looking for help in the Orlando area to install a CB exhaust system with possibly a test pipe. Anyone with a shop willing to help me out this weekend? I want to make sure it gets done right.

You don't need a shop to install a cat back exhaust, or even test pipes. Granted, a lift makes things a whole lot easier. It's not necessary at all though.

I would without any hesitation recommend two things.

#1. Get the Z1 metallic gaskets
#2. Resonated TPs are so much better than non resonated IMHO

I'm in Deltona, not sure where you are in Orlando. If you feel like saving a few bucks on the install, let me know.

Thanks for the information, greatly appreciated. I live in Orlando and am expecting the exhaust to come in Friday. If you're willing to help out, i can pay you something.

Joe, it depends on the test pipes....need to verify if your test pipes utilize a o-ring or flat type gasket first.

I wouldn't charge you anything to throw on a CBE. It's only a few bolts and shouldn't take very long at all. Now putting on test pipes, that might require a bottle of rum.

Which ones use an o-ring? I believe some of the ART pipes do, but I wasn't aware of any regular test pipes that went that route.

lol - well, i am still debating whether to go the test pipe route or the HFCs.. i am just concerned over the fuel smell from the test pipes.

yea, the ART pipes do and i think FI pipes do also, not sure. But it would be easy for him to look at the pipes he got and check.

unless there is a leak, there shouldn't be an issue with any fuel smell

ZziK 10-16-2013 08:54 AM

Really? my understanding was that the fuel smell was noticeable at a stop with the windows down. Is that not the case if there is no leak?

I think there are a lot of variables at play here. Which exhaust with which test pipe, and what other mods and tune did people get the fuel smell.

Whether to go test pipe or HFC, I guess the best question would be what are your future plans? As far as non-resonated test pipes go, some people think they tend to sound a bit raspy. I'd say it'd be best to go to a big Z meet like the upcoming Z fest and find people with test pipes and HFCs to take your for a spin on the highway. See how they sound at idle, at full throttle, and at a cruising rpm.

:rofl2:
Unless you're driving behind a Stillen SC'd car with one of their tunes.
In which case, you can turn up the boost from all the extra fuel in the air.

I'm sorry, I had to. You left yourself wide open for that one.

I decided to go with the CNT CBE system which has the grenade canisters (if this is the correct term) at the end to aid with the rasp which is why i considered the non resonated test pipes.

LostSol 10-16-2013 10:20 AM

I have the ARK Grip exhaust (the CNT is a copy of it) and resonated test pipes, and theres a hint of rasp when cold, so im sure if it was unresonated they would rasp.

Come down to the meet on saturday and you can hear my car and decide for yourself.

ZziK 10-16-2013 11:15 AM

Ok cool - I think i will be heading out there.

LostSol 10-16-2013 11:21 AM

Actually Im pretty sure Ill more likely be at the meet on Sunday.
