Heading to the dragon

Well in two days I'll be driving the "Tail of the dragon" 318 turns in 11 miles and hopefully not too many hostile distractions with ticket pads.

Be safe!

Thanks for the update! J/K :driving:
Have fun!

JACKPAC 07-10-2010 09:37 AM

Post pics. That place has some nice views.

v8zracer260z 07-11-2010 06:32 AM

Will definately get some pics and I'll keepan eye out for sport bikes in my lane too. Unfortunatly I believe there are too many cops now to really have fun.

One_Quick_Z 07-11-2010 07:09 AM

Have fun I was there a few months ago/ But I didnt have the Z

You can still have fun even if you stick pretty close to the speed limit. The corners are tight enough that you don't really feel like you're going slow.

tranceformer 07-11-2010 10:51 AM

Have fun and be careful!!

I remember I had my Z on there where it was only 2 months old.

my mantra that weekend: "don't crash your brand new car, idiot"

Lemers 07-11-2010 11:01 AM

I don't know this place. Post the google earth picture of the road so I can get an idea of the route

Tail of the Dragon - Google Maps

Lemers 07-11-2010 11:16 AM

Damn that looks fun. I live in the desert where the roads are straight.

Zaggeron 07-11-2010 11:32 AM

I'm a little better off here in Austin than El Paso -- there are a few winding drives within an hour of where I live, but nothing in the same class as the Dragon.

Lemers 07-11-2010 11:38 AM

In austin you have all those crazy UT drivers to deal with. My family is from the hill country near SA and I love going for drives out there.

Creek Road @ Dripping Springs from 290 to FM 165 is a fun drive -- about 10 miles or so of dips and tight turns. We've been a little wet this year for me to go up there -- too many water crossings when there's been a bunch of rain

We guys made it back and had a blast! I don't know which was more fun the Dragon or driving a fully deserted recently paved Foothills parkway at full throttle. Either way a great time was had and my wife even tamed the Dragon too. Great having a wife who knows how to hit a corner hard! I am hooping the photographers placed along got some pics too. Only negative came at the end of the run where I was pulled over for get this ..... 46Mph! I was doing almost twice that a few seconds earlier. Fortunately I was let off with a warning instead of a $175.00 fine. Aside from the police pressence it was a great time and highly recommended for any car guys and gals to do at least once in their lives (aka the bucket list). And definately take a bike or sports car not the loads of family mini vans ans suvs littering the road. will post pics soon!

Never mind the cops, watch out for other drivers/riders. Tail of the Dragon eats Squids and spits them back. There is a company that takes pictures at the Dragon, they are famous for nice action shots of your car, they are also VERY famous for crash pics on certain corners. :driving:

Watch for the sharp turns
BIKER IN THE BANK
(gone since 2001)
Here he lies with pistons
and crank
Burried up to his ***
In the face of this bank
He challenged the Dragon
to have some fun
As you can see, the Dragon won!!

Yeah I know what you mean Had a few bikes pushing the centerline. Their bike was on the the right side but with the bike leaning their head was on mine. Fortunately I always leave my self a little wiggle room for the other idiots on the road.

Look like you got lucky with that warning!

I know from last year there's an black undercover SUV driving around there with TN tags. We watched him pull over a bike for improper passing. Watch out for that guy!

v8zracer260z 07-19-2010 06:11 AM

That was the guy! I was looking out for the marked patrol car and totaly missed him. I thought he was a photographer or sight seeing. Photos are on us129photos.com , killboy.com , and zeefoto.com under july 17th. I'm deciding which ones to purchase and what size too. Moonshinephotocom got the back side of the Z I guess I was going a little too briskly for him to get a head on shot.
