There's not really any such thing as a synthetic oil filter, however you should use a quality oil filter that does not have cardboard end-caps like the stock Nissan one does - not sure about the...

More filtration area and less pressure drop. Just look for a GT-R filter (like the HP-1010). My favorites or the K&N, Mobil-1 Extended Performance, and the Purolator, all in the extended length.

I believe Nissan uses bypass filtration, i.e. not all the oil goes through the filter each time. The bigger the filter, the lower the pressure drop, so theoretically more oil should get filtered...

It's the same on all of them. I used a big as* pipe wrench to get it off. It's supposed to be installed at 13 ft-lbs but it was double that.

If you have a wide enough catch tray you can remove both at the same time. Order doesn't really matter but you will end up with less on your hands if you do the drain plug first.
